QUILTERS
This is a Whole Cloth Quilt. Dating back to the 14th century, it's a
quilt with a top made of one solid piece of fabric. Historically, the
focus of a whole cloth quilt was displaying the makers needlework
skills. The designers layout their patterns onto solid fabric, make the
pattern, and stitch by machine or hand. Whole cloth quilts showcase
the beauty of the stitching without the distraction of patchwork
or applique. They require a different set of skills than what we
traditionally think of as quilting and are generally on one color of
fabric. Some of our quilters have dabbled in these, but it takes a lot
of time and focus to be successful. Mostly the Solera quilters like to
create traditional, colorful, useful items to donate or proudly display.
But we're willing to try anything!! Join us on Mondays and see what
we're up to next!
