GOLF CLUB Our first game in May before this issue went to press was a Foursome 3-best Ball. The team of John Dockery-Ernie Salvador- Ed Young-Jaime Maciel took first place honors by firing a total net of 210 (-6). The CP winners were Salvador, Dave Scott, Ray Smith and Bob Umeck. We wrapped up April's tournaments at Eagle Falls in Indio which turned out to be a great venue. The course was in fine condition, and the hospitality was first rate. Congratulations to both Marty Anderson and Tony Smith for their outstanding play throughout this year's Match Play Tournament. Marty prevailed, winning their finals match 5 and 4. In the Twosomes - Best Ball tournament, Kelly (Ham) Bock, and Walter (Egg) Stempien smoked the field by firing a net score of 63. It was a crazy day on April 23 with the wet weather in the morning — totally unexpected. Congrats to Match Play semi-final winners Anderson and T. Smith. Their matches with Bob Marks and Merele Chapman respectively went down to the wire. The Anderson/Marks match was tied after 18, and needed an extra hole to settle it. In the Individual Stroke tournament, Umeck took first place in the A Flight Low Gross while Craig Martin took first in the B Flight Low Gross. In the A Flight Low Net, Dockery took first, while Tom Hamerla took first in the B Flight Low Net. CP winners were: # 3 Jim Parker, # 8 Stan Whitesel, # 13 Arden Bates, and # 16 Marks. Our second event in April was a perfect day at Yucaipa for golf! Congrats to Match Play winners Anderson, Marks, Chapman and T. Smith. In the Two-Person Best Ball tournament, we had a tie for first place between the team of Scott-Maciel and Hamerla-Dave Sampon with a score of 67. Special kudos to Dave Scott for shooting a gross score 76 which coincidently is his age. CP winners were: #3 Scott -, #8 Brad McDuffee, #13 Dave Duncanson, and #16 Armand Silva . Congrats to Match Play Round One winners Umeck, T. Smith, Stempien, Chapman, Marks, Jerry Stearns, Richard Crowe and Anderson. For those not in MP, Individual Skins was the game and the eagles were flying high. There were five! Congrats to Hamerla who led the pack today with four skins (two eagles). Others carding eagles were Dick Martin, Sampson, and Jesse Marin. | LIFE IN SOLERA | JUNE 2024 | 39 During the warmer months, we play Sundays at 6 pm.
