14 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JUNE 2024 | A number of golf activities are available for residents to take part in even if you are not a regular golfer. These include "Pass Putters," "Pitch, Putt, & Party," "Nine & Dine," and "Horse Race" events throughout the year. These events are for the benefit of all residents of Sun Lakes outside the normal activities put on by the various golf clubs for their members. Coming up in early June as part of Charity Weekends, Sun Lakes will once again welcome local area golf pros to participate in Pro-Am events. On Sat., June 8, the Pro-Am Shootout starts on Championship Golf Course hole #10 with the first team teeing off at 9 am. The shootout starts with 10 teams consisting of one pro and one amateur competing in an alternate-shot format. After each hole, one team with the highest score is eliminated. This continues until hole #18 with the final remaining Pro-Am team declared 2024 Champions. All Sun Lakes residents and their guests are invited to attend and follow the action. This is a once a year opportunity for many non-golfing residents to get their golf cart out on the course and see Sun Lakes from the other side of the wall. If you don't have a cart, you are still invited to walk the course and follow the action. On Sun., June 9 the Pro-Am Tournament starts with an 8:30 am shotgun on the Championship Course. The pro golfers participate in an individual- stroke competition while the amateurs compete in a four-Man Scramble with help from the pros. While spectators are not allowed on the course for this event, there are plenty of vantage points to watch the action, especially on the par 3 holes #8 and #13 where participants compete for special prizes. Following the tournament lunch in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom, there is an auction for golf packages donated by the pros. This auction is open to all residents and includes exclusive golf opportunities at courses not normally available to the public. Golf Advisory Sun Lakes Committee Reports Lifestyles Magazine is the resource most residents turn to in order to find out what's going on in our community. At 80 pages, it includes pictures from residents plus articles from the Board, Delegate Assembly, FirstService, Recreation, Food & Beverage, the Pro Shop, and advisory committees. Clubs and groups send articles and photos about their activities to Sunlakesnews@yahoo.com by the sixth of each month. The LAC meets on the sevent of each month, unless otherwise specified, to review and edit the articles submitted for each month's issue of the magazine. We meet with Master Board liaison Beverly Simmons, Assistant General Manager Jason Ewals, and Recreation Manager Linda Vang to keep updated about events coming up in our community. We also publish want ads and for-sale items from residents at no cost and hide a monthly joke for residents to find. Responses to our "Get the Joke" contest are put in a hat and a winner is randomly drawn, earning a restaurant gift card as a prize. Photographs taken by residents of areas within Sun Lakes are used on the magazine cover. If you're good at proofreading and are interested in joining us, please fill out a volunteer application form that you can get in the Main Clubhouse Lobby. Lifestyles Advisory No new acquisitions or contracts requiring participation by the PAC were released last month. However, now that the election cycle is behind us, we expect the next couple months will be busy. Each of the procurement process cycles has a very significant impact on the workload of the GM, department heads and the Board. The Master Board of Directors (MBD) approved a Technology Assessment Initiative to be conducted by the PAC. The initiative consists of the following three phases: 1. Conduct and inventory and audit of all technologies to develop a database that adequately describes each system component. The assessment will include all systems whether the technology is on SLCC site or accessed remotely. 2. Determine the state-of-the-art of HOA-centric technology. 3. Develop a preliminary technology plan/architecture which could conceivably integrate all SLCC technology systems. The initiative will provide the information required to make an objective determination on the feasibility and cost-benefit for SLCC before moving forward. At the very least, the MBD will benefit from knowing what is realistically possible and what the options are as the basis of a viable technology strategy. We currently have a vacancy, if you feel such a challenge may be of interest to you. You can contact us or visit the SLCC website to read the PAC Handbook to get a better idea of what is involved and expected. You are welcome to attend our monthly meeting should you have an interest or feel that this is an opportunity for you to serve the community. We meet the third Monday of each month at 9 am in the Administrative Conference Room. Procurement Advisory
