16 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JUNE 2024 | We have made several recommendations to the Master Board for stop signs and speed limit signs. In a recent meeting, we discussed a recommendation regarding fining residents who do not obey traffic regulations here in Sun Lakes. This includes not making a full stop at stop signs, speeding, and reckless driving. Our recommendation will apply to golf carts as well as cars, trucks, and vans. We know traffic safety is a big concern here in Sun Lakes and we want to ensure that residents, guests, and vendors comply with HOA rules and regulations. Stay tuned for announcements regarding this. Delegates in Districts 10 and 6 (condos) have raised concerns regarding parking violations and street obstructions in their districts. As a result, Securitas has increased their patrols in these areas to document any violations. This is a safety concern because of the narrower streets in the condo areas. First, patrol will attempt to educate residents and/or guests to comply with rules and then to issue a citation if necessary. It's the resident's responsibility to inform their guests of our parking and traffic regulations here, so please do so. There have been some issues recently with contractors soliciting door-to-door after completing a project. They are not allowed to do this. If it happens, please contact Securitas right away. They can identify the company and take the necessary steps to prevent this from happening in the future. Securitas has been coordinating with EPAP to improve and ensure the safety and well-being of Sun Lakes residents. They are jointly reviewing protocols and procedures for potential scenarios including fires, earthquakes, medical emergencies, and security threats. Additionally, Securitas will participate in EPAP's yearly training sessions and drills for residents and staff to familiarize them with procedures. Dogs off-leash has been an issue lately. Please be sure to leash your dogs whenever you are off your property. You can receive a citation if you fail to do this. Remember to check that your garage doors are closed at night before you retire. Be safe and enjoy this beautiful community! Safety Advisory Sun Lakes Committee Reports With summer just around the corner, it's time to start celebrating all the dads, grandpas, and other father figures. Sometimes experiences rather than gifts are welcomed. These could include: going to a baseball game, making a craft together, having a movie day, cooking a meal together. In Canada, Father's Day is not limited to celebrating one's biological parent. Canadians wish happy Father's Day to any male figure, friends, and family who is loving, affectionate, or inf luential. In Mexico, a 21-kilometer race is held; in South Africa, they go fishing in hopes of securing a catch for dinner. Father's Day is Sun., June 16, and however you wish to spend it, we hope you all have an enjoyable day. Many events were held in May including garage sales, community shredding and the Lynyrd Skynyrd Tribute Concert. Evenings on the Veranda will begin June 5 with Renee from 5 to 8 pm. Join us on June 10 for the first Ice Cream Social of the summer. It will be held in the Sandwedge from 2 to 3 pm. Two scoops for $3 is a great deal. You can get your ice cream fix the second Monday of month, through September. Join us June 29 on the Veranda for the first Music Under The Stars of the summer from 6:30 to 9 pm. "Proud To Be An American" is the theme for July 4th! Big plans are in the works for a fantastic celebration. The Golf Cart Parade is always exciting. Everyone has such unique ideas for "dressing up" their golf carts. The Recreation Committee has several unique ideas for food and games. Come and see what we have to offer. Recreation Advisory The Library Committee will soon order new books, books on tape, and other materials for the upcoming fall and new year. Your input is crucial in shaping our library's collection. We value your preferences and want to know what you want to see on our shelves: new selections, authors, bestsellers, classics, mysteries, romances, and westerns. We will soon be conducting a survey to determine what interests you in the four libraries. It's a simple process: complete and drop it in the designated dropbox. Once we have compiled your selections, we will begin ordering. The Committee is exploring possibly starting a book group that the library would sponsor. Several ideas have been proposed for what such a group might look like: 1. Discussion of a book that everyone has read (no topical focus). 2. Reading and discussing in a specific genre (historical fiction, mystery, romance, English or American classics, non-fiction, etc.). 3. Readers come together to share whatever books they've been reading (no common reading). 4. "Author Showcase" program where Southern California authors talk about their books. 5. "Author Showcase" followed by reading and discussing one of the author's books. Call Peter Fernadez at (626) 379-7372 or Laurel Stanley at (585) 378-0803 if any of these options sound interesting. Look for the survey sometime in June. Your input is needed to continue making our libraries attractive to our residents. Library Advisory
