| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JUNE 2024 | 45 Stroke Recovery Support Group This group is designed to reach out to recovering stroke survivors. We meet to share our stories of varying degrees of success, a sense of being understood, and of optimism for the future. Join us on Sundays from 12 to 2 pm in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. Call Barbara Searcy for more information at (951) 663-3382. Caregiver Support Group Happy Father's Day to all of the dads here in Sun Lakes! I wish each of you a wonderful day. I will be thinking of my dad and all the life lessons he taught me. Our next meeting and support group will be on Thurs., June 20 at 10 am in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. There is no guest speaker this month. This will give each of you more time to share, if you choose, and also learn. This program is open to ALL CAREGIVERS. Come see what we have to offer. This is a free program to help you, the caregiver. We also have a program in the Arts & Craft Room for your loved one. We care for him or her while you attend the meeting. Thank you to Paul Alloway for entertaining last month. Paul is always so generous with his time and talent. We appreciate that he always brings his brother Lance and friend Carrie to entertain. 8 THINGS NO ONE TELLS YOU ABOUT BEING A CAREGIVER FOR SOMEONE WITH ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE: 1. You have to learn how to grieve losing someone while they are still alive. 2. I wish I had known from the beginning to just listen to and trust myself, because I am the only one who knows what it feels like to be in my own circumstances. 3. Alzheimer's affects everyone differently. 4. The most comforting feeling I found was talking to someone who could relate. 5. I should have said, "Can you come over on Wednesday without me having to ask so I can go to the gym for an hour or get my nails done?" 6. Alzheimer's hit you hard financially. 7. There will be good days and bad. 8. Appreciate your loved one every single day. Be grateful for how much they can do in that day, in that moment. If you have any questions, would like to learn more about Memory Loss, or would like reading material that we can loan you, call Diane at (951) 765-7460, Doug at (360) 840-5559 or me, Anne at (951) 845- 8700. Remember we are here to help.
