| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JUNE 2024 | 57
It was a perfect spring morning. Convener,
Joe Shaw, arrived early with tennis balls
ready for play, which began at 8 am. Likely
due to the favorable weather, ten players were
present on courts #1 & #2, and engaged in
Gender Neutral Doubles by the time a group
picture was arranged.
Past President, Bill Hendra, began this
Tuesday and Thursday Drop-In about fifteen
years ago. His intention was to offer an open
invitation to all residents of Sun Lakes to
get started with tennis, or renew skills from
former days. On this morning of April 9,
that intention was realized with three players
present who were new to our courts and to
the activities of the Tennis Club. There is a
one dollar per player cost to cover tennis
balls. Those who take part are included in
parties from time to time, as well.
The activities of the Tennis Club for the
month of June will include:
Sat., June 1: 8 am- Skills Session/8:30 am-
Mixed Doubles (Free)
Tues. & Thurs: 8 am - Drop-In Gender
Neutral Doubles ($1 charge for balls)
Sun., June 2 – 9: Possible Charity Week
Related Event
Mon., June 10: 5 pm- Intermediate Skills
Session. $2/$5 Non-Members, limited to 12
participants/sign-up in advance
Sat., June 29: Quarterly Meeting &
Margaritaville Madness potluck. Held at the
South Clubhouse; guests are welcome.
Our very own tennis pro, Phil Hazelton,
offers a tennis tip. According to Phil, "Watch
the pros, and pay attention to who wins. The
player that gets the ball over the net the most
consistently is usually the winner. When you
find yourself in trouble, try a different shot.
Your only concern is to get it over the net and
into the court. As always, keep your eye on
the ball and fun in the game."
