| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JULY 2024 | 17 Sun Lakes Committee Reports BINGO CALLERS NEEDED! The Bingo Advisory Committee needs callers/volunteers in order to remain open in 2024-2025. Sun Lakes residents please consider giving your time, talents, and commitment to this very successful committee so that Tuesday Night Bingo can continue in 2024-2025. We really need your help! We have a great deal to celebrate this month of July. Did you know the "United States is the only country with a known birthday." ~ James G. Blaine As Americans we have so much to be thankful for with parades, fireworks, picnics with family and friends proclaiming our freedoms. Our Committee wishes you the best on the Fourth of July and all the summer events ahead. As you know, the Restaurant & Lounge areas are being refurbished and we highly suggest you watch Good Day Sun Lakes updates on FB for food and beverage services available for Tuesday Night Bingo sessions. Remember food and lounge service is only available with a SL membership card or credit card - no cash. Bingo game dates for this month will be July 9, 16, 23, and 30. We play 12 regular and three special games and guests can play all 15 games for as little as $7 for the whole evening. Many cash and door prizes are won each week. Remember cash only - no checks or credit cards. Doors open at 4:30 pm, games start at 6 pm sharp and games are over by 8:45 pm. Any questions? Call Toni at (909) 709-1434 or Karen at (951) 797- 3817. Bingo Advisory The Library Committee will soon order new books, audio books, and other materials for the upcoming fall and new year. Your input is crucial in shaping our library's collection. We value your preferences and want to know what you want to see on our shelves: new selections, authors, bestsellers, classics, mysteries, romances, and westerns. We will soon conduct a survey to determine the interests that you want in the four libraries. It's a simple process: complete the survey and drop it in the designated drop box. Once we have compiled your selections, we will begin ordering. The Committee is exploring possibly starting a book group that the library would sponsor. Several ideas have been proposed for what such a group might look like: 1. Discussion of a book that everyone has read (no topical focus). 2. Reading and discussing in a specific genre (historical fiction, mystery, romance, English or American Classics, non-fiction, etc.) . 3. Readers come together to share whatever books they've been reading (no common reading). 4. "Author Showcase" program where Southern California authors talk about their books. 5. "Author Showcase" followed by reading and discussing one of the author's books. Call Peter Fernandez at (626) 379-7372 or Laurel Stanley at (585) 378-0803. Look for the survey sometime in June. Your input is needed to continue making our libraries attractive to our residents. On a monthly basis, the Finance Advisory Committee reviews the financial statements and when appropriate, sends recommendations to the Board and also questions to the management for clarity on some accounts. We are reporting the financial position for the community. Since our May meeting, a financial recap of January through April for the major categories was forward to the Board Treasurer for his review. Our purpose is to provide a clear understanding of the year-to-year accounts for the Board and any trends that may be developing. We are also keeping a separate log for capital and reserve expenses which are provided to the Treasurer. In our June meeting, we appointed a subcommittee to assist with budget preparations, and started an analysis of our investment earnings. Our committee wants to be the "go to" for the Board. We can provide the financial impact for any changes or purchases for the departments and then the Board can decide on their action plan We are here to gather the financial information that the Board needs to make their decisions. Our next meeting is scheduled for July 17 at 2 pm in the Multipurpose Room. All residents are welcome to attend and ask any financial questions of either the committee members or the Board Treasurer.
