Summer is here and it's time to celebrate our nation's 248th birthday! White (all colors of the spectrum), Red and Blue (plus Yellow) are the basis of all colors you can conceive. This month and every month, let's put them together and create some art. Art League is "dark" this month as our members enjoy the longer, warmer days. But fear not, we will be back and hope to see you at our August meeting, Aug. 11 at 2 pm in the South Clubhouse. We are featuring our own Sun Lakes artist, Carol Cole, who will give a presentation on her outstanding techniques in abstract painting and collage. She will also be conducting her, ever popular, classes on Aug. 18, 25, and Sept. 1 in the Main Clubhouse Arts & Crafts Room. ($30 members, $35 non-members) Our last meeting was in May but I'd like to recognize the winners of the mini art show at this time: 1st place: Susan Van Loon with a beautiful oil painting of her daughter's wedding day; 2nd place: Frank Bonarigo who presented a colorful, yet relaxing, painting of a seaside town; 3rd place: Judy Grant and her charming pencil drawing of a frog. Congratulations to these winners and all who entered! Upcoming dates of interest: • Be sure to come to our meeting on Oct. 13 in the North Clubhouse and enjoy the many talents of watercolor artist, Suni Godbold. There will be three follow-up classes for you to enjoy. • Art League's premier event of the year: Art Walk on Sept. 21 in the Mail Clubhouse Ballroom. Enjoy, and perhaps purchase, the work of our community's many talented artists. Door prizes of original art will be given away.
