14 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JULY 2024 | The GAC is receiving an increase in reported violations of golf course rules. As a reminder to residents, all golfers must check in at the Pro Shop prior to teeing off. Anytime the Pro Shop is closed all golfers must sign the after-hours sheet. Residents and guests must follow the dress code when using any of the golf facilities. A resident must accompany their guests at all times while using the golf facilities. Residents are responsible for the behavior of their guests and may be subjected to disciplinary action for violation of golf course rules. The GAC continues to support individual carts and would like to remind golfers to be good course stewards by following a few simple rules. Please follow the 90-degree rule, vary driving patterns to avoid soil compaction, and keep golf carts 20 feet from greens and sand traps. A rule of thumb is if you are closer than seven paces to the green you are too close. Use the entry and exit gates to help limit turf damage. If all golfers gave a little more effort, it would aid in keeping the current individual cart conditions in place. Sun Lakes has one of the finest golf course maintenance crews in the area led by Mark Burchfield, a past Golf Superintendent of the Year. The crew works as a dedicated team to provide golfers with the best possible playing conditions. This year's spring growth spurt was especially challenging due to mechanical issues with one of the rough mowers. Thankfully, a new rough mower was delivered that helped maintenance in their effort to keep up during this critical time. In addition to the daily maintenance work and emergency irrigation repairs, Mark is overseeing a couple maintenance projects. Work to repair the damaged drainage system on Championship #15 has been approved. The delay in this repair until after the rainy season was necessary to avoid having to redo the work since the sod requires two to three weeks to set and root stabilizing the area. The cart path repairs in areas prioritized to be safety risks should start soon. This work was delayed due to a request for additional bids. The Master Board, golf maintenance, and the GAC continually work together to provide all residents with golf facilities and landscapes of which we can all be proud. Golf Advisory Sun Lakes Committee Reports Lifestyles Magazine is the resource most residents turn to in order to find out what's going on in our community. At 80 pages, it includes pictures from residents plus articles from the Board, Delegate Assembly, FirstService, Recreation, Food & Beverage, the Pro Shop, and advisory committees. Clubs and groups send articles and photos about their activities to Sunlakesnews@yahoo.com by the sixth of each month. The LAC meets on the sevent of each month, unless otherwise specified, to review and edit the articles submitted for each month's issue of the magazine. We meet with Master Board liaison Beverly Simmons, Assistant General Manager Jason Ewals, and Recreation Manager Linda Vang to keep updated about events coming up in our community. We also publish want ads and for-sale items from residents at no cost and hide a monthly joke for residents to find. Responses to our "Get the Joke" contest are put in a hat and a winner is randomly drawn, earning a restaurant gift card as a prize. Photographs taken by residents of areas within Sun Lakes are used on the magazine cover. If you're good at proofreading and are interested in joining us, please fill out a volunteer application form that you can get in the Main Clubhouse Lobby. Lifestyles Advisory
