| OHCC LIVING | JULY 2024 | 9 I frequently have residents comment on what a good job SERT is doing. Thank you for the positive reinforcement. Within SERT, we have several functional teams, starting with "Safety." The Neighbor-Helping-Neighbor program is all about safety and helping you be prepared before a disaster or emergency occurs. Safety Coordinators are SERT members who volunteer to help their neighbors be prepared. They encourage neighbors to get to know one another and create a "buddy system" where neighbors share their contact information, including emergency contact details, so that when an emergency occurs, everyone is prepared. We need more volunteers to motivate these interactions among their neighbors. To get involved or for more information, send us an email at sc.ohccsert@gmail.com. Another part of the Neighbor-Helping-Neighbor program is Helping Hands, which merged with SERT in April. Helping Hands provides free medical equipment (crutches, walkers, wheelchairs, etc.). If you need equipment or have equipment to donate, please send an email to hh.ohccsert@gmail.com. We will pick-up and deliver to your home. Family Caregivers is another group under Neighbor-Helping- Neighbor. This group meets on the third Thursday of every month at the Clubhouse at 7 pm. It is a support group for family caregivers and often has speakers to provide you with helpful advice and tips. You are encouraged to share your successes and frustrations and join a network of like-minded people. To get more information, send us an email at ohccfamilycaregivers@gmail.com. The Emergency Response Team (ERT) steps in as First Responders when the Fire and Police Departments are overwhelmed. All ERT members have a current certification from the American Red Cross in Adult First Aid/CPR/AED and have completed 12 hours of additional emergency preparedness training based on FEMA guidelines. We are always looking for more ERT members. To learn more about this program, please contact me directly at tporter.sert@gmail.com. SERT is the only club in OHCC that is a "service club." While the SERT Club is under the Social Clubs umbrella, we focus on keeping us all SAFE! Membership fees go directly to supporting your safety. If you are not a member yet, we urge you to join today. You can drop off your $10 check and fill out a Membership Form at the Clubhouse Front Desk. We also accept donations! Please stay safe and enjoy July 4th!
