| OHCC LIVING | JULY 2024 | 31 Happy July to all our friends in papercrafting! It's summer at last and our club is enjoying making summertime cards along with 4th of July, Vacations, Bon Voyages and more. We had a great time back in May for our 40th Anniversary event and we want to share some pictures. Visitors were able to view many of what our crafters have been making as well as take part in our demonstrations: blending Copic markers and making stamps and die cuts. We also had several of our members selling their wonderful creations! And every visitor was able to enjoy a complimentary cupcake complete with buttercream f lowers on top. Thanks to Karin Barnes for spearheading a wonderful event and to all the wonderful volunteers who contributed their time and talents (and cupcakes). A wonderful time was had by all. We want to wish a very Happy Birthday to our members celebrating birthdays this month: Here's to Emma Chung, Vicki Dibble, Jacqueline Ettinger, Lynn Head, Diana Hoffman, Joanne Miller, and Donna Stone! May your birthday celebrations be many and filled with those you love. Check out this month's calendar for a listing of both popular and obscure events and holidays being celebrated in July. July 2024 holidays, national, international days. Holiday in July. (holidayinsights.com) Get inspired to send some cards to those you love! Happy 4th of July to all here at OHCC. Until next month, happy crafting. Respectfully submitted by Debbie Cea Papercrafting Club Towards the beginning of July, each member is invited to submit some photos (no more than three) for display in the Art Room. Instructions on how to prepare your photos for this will be sent via email, but the target date will be July 6 at 9 am, so start thinking about what you would like to submit, get some frames organized, etc. The Art Room experts will choose what photos they want to display and will decide how to organize them. Our photos will be on display for three months. Our newly formed Hall Display Committee has met a couple of times to talk about what we're doing with respect to the photo display in the hallway in the Clubhouse leading to the pool. That display has been there… a while. We hope they will be publishing recommendations soon. We're hoping the new display can happen in 2024, but it's more likely to happen during the first quarter of 2025. Members will be asked to submit photos for consideration, and some outside judges, most likely from the Oceanside Museum of Art, will select the photos to go on the wall. The Ref lections photos will be returned to their owners. Please note that there will not be a Photo Club general meeting in July or August. The next Photo Club meeting will be on Sept. 19 at 1 pm. Here are some quick tips for reducing blurriness due to camera shake: • Use a vibration reducing lens (my favorite) • Lean on a solid object, like a tree or a post, to steady yourself • Increase shutter speed • Tuck your elbows in against your body • Lie down on the ground (see the photo of our friend taking a photo at Chateauneuf-du-Pape in France) Written by Jim McDonough – jamespmcdonough@gmail.com – (760) 593-9994 Photography
