FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JULY 2024 57 During this past month, the level of participation during the morning session of the Spin 'n Slam Table Tennis Club has been truly astounding. On a Saturday morning earlier this month, 11 ping pong fans filled The Courts room, with almost as many playing the following Tuesday. We can only feel lucky that we have three tables at our disposal. One would think that only during hurricanes and tornadoes would folks decide to move indoors to get exercise during this great spring weather. This seems to offer proof of the many benefits, both physical and mental, that ping pong offers the seniors of this community. The game requires high levels of both concentration and eye/hand coordination, not to mention the need to quickly move from one end of the table to the next in order to return a ball that your opponent has hit deep into the corner. The Spin 'n Slam Table Tennis Club was formed to attract those players with not only competitive spirit, but those who understand the rules and strategies of the game that make it such a pleasurable activity. We meet on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays beginning at 10:30 am. See you at the tables. ~ Bob Rubenstein, brube88@ gmail.com As Steve mentioned in the tennis article, whether the weather is good, bad, hot, or cold, we play tennis and paddle tennis. As some Pickleball members took to the sea, so did paddle tennis folks. We played pickleball aboard our Royal Caribbean Mediterranean cruise. Stan and Steve beat a younger couple who commented, "why do we lose to older players?" So, Four Season Beaumont paddle tennis player's rocked at Pickleball while at sea. Paddle tennis is very popular at Venice Beach. It's played at The Lakes Country Club and in Redlands. We here at Four Seasons would love to have you join us. During the warm weather, you will find some players around 4 pm. At times, we arrange to play at 9 am on Sundays. You can play anytime, no reservations are required. We have extra paddles for you to try out. We are happy to arrange a time that works for you for lessons. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. ~ Lizzie Gallegos, ecgallegos@outlook.com Paddle Tennis Stan Lam, Lizzie Gallegos, Steve Hovey, (not pictured is Larry Zimmerman) There are many reasons to play ping pong. Here are a few. Table tennis raises the heart rate, helps strengthen muscles, mobilizes the joints, sharpens reaction times, and hugely improves hand-eye coordination, all of which help to improve one's quality of life. If these reasons are not enough for you, just play ping pong because it is so much fun. Who says it is fun? All the people in the picture below and that includes Pete Antoine, Brent Steward, Lian Lee, Alan Chan, Perry White, Sandra Roberts, Niles Sundstrom, Soo Lee, Lisa Thackerson, Jeannine Baker, Julia Dobos, Kelly Kaarmstead, and Valerie Moller. Come give ping pong a try. We play Monday through Saturday from 2 to 4 pm at The Courts. For more info, contact Niles at (818) 826-1380. ~ Niles Sundstrom Table Tennis Spin 'n Slam Table Tennis Club
