| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | JULY 2024 | 7 July brings with it the continued hot weather and bright sunshine. Garden Tips: Protect your plants from the sun: Since the summer sun can be strong in Hemet, consider protecting your perennial plants from full sun by either moving their pots to a shady spot or by using a shade cloth to protect planting beds. Check your irrigation system: It is a good time to test your irrigation system to make sure that sprinklers, drip cans, and valves are working properly. It is all too easy to lose plants to clogged drip cans when temperatures top one hundred degrees. Paseo Plant Updates: The East Legends Paseo area will soon be receiving new plants. Choosing summer hardy plants is cost effective and adds to the biodiversity of our Four Seasons landscape. Here are two new plants that should add to the beauty of the East Legends Paseo. California Fushia: One hardy native plant for the summer heat is the California Fushia, (botanical name, Zauchneria californica. Native to the California foothills and coastal areas, it is a long- blooming summer plant that grows two feet tall and wide. The abundant bloom attracts hummingbirds and beneficial insects. This plant is on fire-resistant plant lists, including FireSafe Marin and the County of San Diego. Sea Lavender: The next plant is also a hardy summer plant that grows well in full sun called Sea Lavender or Statice; botanical name is Limonium latifolium. The purple and white flowers grow in clumps of one foot wide and tall. It can be grown as a cut flower and used in dried floral bouquets because it is easy to preserve. Part of sea lavender's drought tolerance is due to the large taproot that allows the plant to absorb water from well below the soil surface. Have questions for the Landscape Committee? You can email them to Maria Donti at Maria.Donti@fsresidential.com. Landscape Committee Scavenger Hunt: Many thanks to resident Lisa Dernbach who organized the return of the Four Seasons Scavenger Hunt on May 18. It was a great success. There were 14 teams who had fun figuring out clues for items located within the community at the same time learned a lot about the Four Seasons community. In the end, it was the team of Cathy Schwartzer, Lorraine Ong, and Rhonda Corbett that returned first with all correct answers, earning a Bistro certificate. Thank you to all of the participants. Fourth of July Celebration: Tickets are available for $25 person. Celebrate the Fourth with your neighbors. Enjoy a grilled hamburger and a hotdog with all the "fixins," with music provided by the American Patriot Band. "The bonus is American Patriot which is a top professional group who bring music, talent and full heart to all of their outreach performances. I am proud to be partnered with them in Media, music and service to keep the mission of honoring our heroes and empowering others to do the same." ~ Amy Scruggs, American Dream TV Show Host/Recording Artist Summertime: George Gershwin said it well: "Summertime, and the livin' is easy…" The month of July marks the midpoint of the year. It is a favored month to take vacation because of the consistently warm and sultry weather across much of the world. For some of our Four Seasons residents it may be a few days aboard a cruise ship. For other residents, The Lodge facilities become the focal point for BBQs, morning dips in the pool and hanging around in the afternoon. The evening gives way to Music on the Plaza and Movies on the Plaza. A great time to come out and visit with your neighbors. The month of July is also known for the many normal and unusual national and international recognition day, as in "I didn't know there is a day for that," such as: July 1 - National Creative Ice Cream Flavor Day July 3 - National Stay Out of the Sun Day July 5 - Bikini Day July 10 - National Clerihew Day July 11 - All American Pet Photo Day July 16 - National Get Out of the Dog House Day July 20 - Toss Away the Could Haves and Should Haves Day July 23 - International Yada Yada Day July 25 - National Wine and Cheese Day And lastly, July 30 - International Day of Friendship Coming soon … Wednesday Bingo Nights, Fourth of July Celebration; July 5 First Friday TGIF - Karaoke; July 14 Brunch at the Bistro; July 16 Music on the Plaza: Lifetime Rocker; July 24 Open Session Board Meeting.
