e Club Champion party at Marty's! | LIFE IN SOLERA | AUGUST 2024 | 43 GOLF CLUB The conclusion of the Club Championship came on June 11. Bob Umeck held the lead after round one with a 78 followed by Dave Scott who was 4 back with an 82 and Mike Davis another 4 back at 86. While this appeared to be a 3-horse race, by the time they got to the turn, Scott closed the gap and trailed by one shot. The back nine saw Umeck extend his lead to back to three shots twice, the last time was after the par three 14th hole. Scott then birdied #15 and closed out the last 3 holes with pars to edge past Umeck and win by two strokes with a two-day total of 161 to 163. CONGRATULATIONS to our 2024 Club Champion Dave Scott. Low Net was another exciting game as Glenn Bradd came into the second round up by two over Jerry Stearn. By the time they got to the turn, Bradd increased his lead to 4. The back nine was where the action made it more exciting as Stearn chipped away at Bradds's lead and the 18th hole proved to be the decisive hole when Stearn got a net par to close out the match with a two-day total of net 142 to Bradd's 143. Both the gross and net games came down to the wire and were definitely very competitive between the finalists. The best seats on the course were the other two golfers in each of the first two groups. Later the same day, the Solera Golf Club had an afternoon BBQ/ potluck get together at Anderson's house for all club members (not just the tournament players) and spouses at no cost. The club provided burgers, hot dogs, beans, chips, and liquid refreshments. A special shout-out to Marie Magdaleno who provided two trays of homemade(?) potato salad. Pam Sampson provided a sweet and salty dessert of Rolo chocolate topped with a pretzel (my favorite). Other items were brownies, fruit salad, lots of different cookies, etc. Basically, there was food-a-plenty! Thanks to everyone who brought food and drink to share. A BIG THANKS to Marty for being such a gracious host. The week after the Club Championship the team of Ray Smith, Alan Forbes, Kelly Bock and Walter Stempien took no prisoners and lapped the field with a terrific net score of 196(-20).
