The city of Beaumont now contracts with Everbridge to send out emergency alert messages affecting the city of Beaumont. This service is free and offered to all residents and visitors. Sign up by using the Everbridge mobile app, member portal or Text BEAUMONT to 888777. This is another emergency app that will keep Solera residents informed in the event of a wide scale emergency affecting the city of Beaumont and the Solera community. In the event of a widescale disaster, the Solera Radio Club will activate its own emergency communications network that is based here in Solera. The Radio Club has several HAM operators that have the ability to communicate with other HAM operators in our local area. Radio Club/CERT members also use a localized radio network that is utilized just for the Solera community. Another form of communication that the Solera community uses is the Solera eblast system. Every Solera resident should be on the eblast system. Updates on current Solera road closures, gate issues and infrastructure projects are sent through the eblast system. In the event of a disaster affecting the Solera community, the eblast system can be used to communicate timely information about evacuation statuses and emergency response within the Solera community. If you haven't signed up for the Solera eblast system, please do so. It's quick, easy to use and will keep our Solera residents informed. In last month's edition, the CERT team wrote an article on how to make an evacuation kit. I hope that residents took notice and are making their own personal evacuation kits. Some areas of Beaumont, including Solera, are in a wild land interface area. This means that there is a potential for a brush fire to develop on or near Solera property lines. In the case of a brush fire, a wind-driven brush fire can cause embers to travel a distance of one mile or more causing spot fires. This can put the Solera community at risk and in a potential fire/evacuation zone. Recent brush fires near Beaumont and Banning are cause for concern. Another potential disaster lies right below us in the form of an earthquake. The Beaumont/Pass area is very near to several active earthquake faults. Please don't wait for a disaster to strike and then start packing your vehicle or going to the grocery store to stock up on essentials. We all need to be prepared to shelter in place or be ready to evacuate when the order is given by emergency authorities. Your evacuation kit and home disaster preparation will help you survive in a disaster situation. Do not be unprepared! The FC is responsible for many things such as, reviewing the financial reports each month for accuracy, ensuring the funds collected are insured by FDIC or other insurances, monitoring the monthly transactions of the Reserve Fund, and presenting quarterly reports to the Board of Directors. One thing the FC is not responsible for is how the money is spent. The FC works with the General Manager to look at the expenses of the current fiscal year, contract increases, and inflation rates to develop a budget for the next fiscal year. The Board has the final review and may make changes to the proposed budget. The information at right explains where your monthly assessment money is spent.
