28 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | AUGUST 2024 At our June meeting, we had a presentation by a representative from San Gorgonio Hospital. We were provided with important information on stroke prevention and management. We were also given an update on the current status of the hospital becoming a Certified Stroke Center. As a Certified Stroke Center, San Gorgonio Hospital will have health professionals on staff specially trained in emergency stroke care. Once certification is achieved, the hospital will be a preferred location to which first responders will transport individuals experiencing stroke symptoms. In July, we scheduled a presentation by Jeff Platt, Director of Homeless Services from the City of Banning. e Beaumont Police Department works closely with the City of Banning's Homeless Services to provide follow-up care to our homeless population. NAVIGATING SAFELY IN OUR COMMUNITY e following reminders are being provided to help keep you safe while walking, driving, or riding in our beautiful neighborhood. Pedestrian Safety Tips • Whenever possible, walk on the sidewalk; if no sidewalk is available, walk facing traffic. • Cross streets at crosswalks. • If no crosswalk is available and your view is blocked, move to a place where you can see oncoming traffic. • Look le, right, and le again before crossing the street, making eye contact with drivers of oncoming vehicles to make sure they see you. • Stay alert – avoid cell phone use and wearing earbuds. • At night or during early morning hours, wear bright and/or reflective clothing, and use a flashlight. • Watch for cars entering or exiting driveways or backing up in parking lots. Note: Walk at your own risk when accessing our trails. Be on the alert for native wildlife, particularly in the early morning and evening hours. e risk of encounters is low; however, keep in mind, we are intruding on their native environment. Vehicle Driving Safety Tips Unsafe driving is a common concern brought up by residents at our Safety Committee meetings. Here are a few reminders to help keep our community safe. • 25 miles per hour is the maximum speed limit on roadways within our residential districts. • 30 miles per hour is the maximum speed limit on Four Seasons Circle. • Stop at all designated STOP signs. Make a complete stop, and do not "roll through" our STOP signs. • Yield to vehicles that have entered a roundabout. Note: When entering a roundabout, only drive in a counterclockwise direction! • Yield to pedestrians. • No distracted driving! Put away your cell phones and other electronic devices while driving. • Do not drive with your fur baby in your lap or in the front seat where they can distract you. • Do not park in our alley ways. Access must be maintained for emergency response vehicles. Golf Cart Safety Tips • Check or inspect your electric or gas-powered cart prior to operation (i.e., brakes, tires, horn, lights, mirrors, power supply cord, and plug). • Ensure that all passengers are sitting in designated, permanently installed seats. • Prior to starting the cart, look over both shoulders, and check the mirrors to make sure that all passengers are fully and properly seated, and ensure that pedestrians are away from the sides of the cart. • Obey all traffic signs (including STOP signs) and pavement markings. Never drive faster than it is safe or only as fast as conditions allow. • While the cart is moving, ensure that all passengers are fully and properly seated and that all parts of their body remain inside the envelope of the cart. • Avoid standing water, potholes, bumps, loose gravel, or sand. • Yield to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic. • Slow down and yield to cross traffic at all unmarked or blind intersections. Note: Do not allow children to drive your golf cart. Bicycle Safety Tips • Obey all rules of the road. • Obey all traffic signs and pavement markings. • Be constantly aware of pedestrian and vehicle traffic. • Make yourself as visible as possible at night or in low lighting conditions, including equipping the bicycle with a light and reflectors and wearing light colored clothing or a reflective vest. • Watch your speed when riding on electric bicycles. Note: e riding of bicycles on any of the Four Seasons trails and sidewalks is not allowed. Remember, "If you see something, say something." We would like to thank our block captains and Community Awareness Committee members for all they do to help keep our community safe. ~ Frank Hilberg, hilberg frank@gmail.com Community Awareness
