| THE COLONY NEWS | AUGUST 2024 | 19 Article and Photos by Valorie Hillerich On Flag Day, June 14, our Colony Military Veterans were honored with a Veterans Pinning Ceremony and received Certificates of Recognition. Sponsored by Elizabeth Hospice of Temecula and coordinated by co-chairs Linda Santana and Gloria Brosky, with help from their committee of volunteers, the veterans and guests were greeted with a warm hello and enjoyed a delicious continental breakfast. Representative Lisa Marco Longo of Elizabeth Hospice asked the crowd to stand for presentation of The Colors by a member of each branch of the Armed Services. "Taps" was played by the guest bugler. Linda Santana then welcomed everyone with a few words, followed by the presentation of pinnings and certificates of recognition. Veterans were recognized for their service, hardships, and willingness to risk their lives to maintain our freedom. The Veterans Pin symbolizes meaning, purpose, comfort, and closure for veterans and their loved ones. In honoring the veterans, Linda pointed out that "Our flag continues to wave across our free nation because of our Armed Forces." Guest Linda Weinke was there with her husband, Ken. She told us, "It was very moving to see all the veterans. There was a wonderful turnout and was enjoyed by all. This was a first in The Colony, and it was truly appreciated."
