| THE COLONY NEWS | AUGUST 2024 | 37 Men's Golf By Greg Griffes Men's Golf Scholarship Luncheon By Sam Currie Summer's here! We are starting earlier now to try to beat the heat. Our High School scholarship event went well, and you'll find an article all about it in this month's Colony News magazine. The Men's Club is looking for Colony resident golfers of all abilities to join us. Membership benefits are weekly fun events mixed with individual events to improve your game and handicap. We have monthly luncheons, two major championships a year, a year-end Awards Banquet, and we sponsor the charity Pancake Breakfasts twice a year. If you are interested in joining our group, there are membership forms, a schedule of games, and our game winners at our website, http://colonymensgolf.net. If you have any questions about membership in the CMGC please contact George Herrera at 760-533-0350 for more information. If you want to play golf with us, contact Greg Griffes at 951-383- 9988 or gggriffes@gmail.com The CMGC's 2024 Scholarship Luncheon was held in the Auditorium on June 19. The Luncheon followed a round of golf with the student awardees, coaches and members of the students' families. Of course, the reason for this Luncheon, held each year in June, is to present Scholarship Awards (money raised through our Pancake Breakfasts) to selected Murrieta High School athletes, specifically in the golf programs. These students were recommended by their high school coaches as candidates for the awards. Following lunch, Dennis Murphy opened the Awards proceedings by introducing each successful awardee, listing not only their golf proficiency but also their academic and leadership achievements during their high school years. Monies provided through the scholarships are sent directly into their accounts at their selected colleges. Congratulations to Jason Aylward and Amanda Aylward of Mesa High School, Jesse Ham of Valley High School and Jada Golovich (not pictured) also of Valley High School. Our best wishes to our scholarship winners for a successful and enjoyable college career! Le to right: Jim Gillespie, Mel Rich, and Leo Alonzo putting on #11.
