30 | THE COLONY NEWS | AUGUST 2024 |
In August, we will be discussing Molokai. The novel by Alan Brennert takes you on a touching
and heartfelt ride of varied emotions. It involves the infamous Kalaupapa Leprosy Settlement on
the island of Moloka'i in Hawaii. The historical fiction story features deeply rich characters, and
a portrait of a people who took the worst of times and lived dignified lives a world away from their
families and friends who seemed to have forgotten them.
The Book Readers gather in the Meeting Room on the second Wednesday of each month at 10:30
am, which for August is the 14th. We invite you to join us.
If you want to read ahead, our September book selection is An American Beauty by Shana Abe.
It's a novel inspired by the true story of Arabella Huntington, who became the richest woman in the
country. Enjoy!
