| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | AUGUST 2024 | 11 When you move to Sun Lakes you join a 55+, or active senior living community, if you prefer that spin. You've decided to settle among others in a similar phase of life and spend your years aging gracefully. Aging gracefully? What marketing brochure did that come from? This aging stuff is not for the faint of heart. Following a recent battery of tests, I found I had three serious conditions that were age-related and might greatly impact my quality of life. I'm dealing with CSS syndrome, CHS syndrome as well as CRS syndrome. When I asked what those ominous acronyms meant, Doc told me that CSS stood for can't see stuff, CHS meant can't hear stuff, but for the life of me I can't remember what CRS was. We all get older yet grace doesn't come by accident. Aging gracefully depends upon our attitudes toward people in life we've yet to encounter. It's found in the kindness we extend to others. It's imbued in the lack of judgment we maintain. It's infused into our willingness to help at personal expense. The greatest benefit of choosing to live gracefully is not just the good bestowed to individuals. The decency in an act of self lessness somehow compounds to enrich the community and bless the giver. Part of a delegate's responsibilities involve dealing with problems between neighbors that inevitably appear. In my experience, these problems mainly come from living in a 55+ community. Not because we're cloistered behind gates and walls, but because we share the same demographic. Yep, that's us, living in the realm of telephone and email scams, where CSS, CHS and CRS reign rampant. When most of those pesky community issues get distilled, many are simple misunderstandings generated by something not heard quite correctly or a memory as sharp as a block of butter. Usually, all the hubbub is self-inf licted angst, and can be defused with a bit of kindness and understanding. Your District Delegate is an excellent resource for community information. Delegates help elevate issues of concern to the proper channel and intercede if you have problems communicating with the right people. They're ready to help but can't do much without knowing what's on your mind. So… let them know. While emails and texts are great, also take the time to talk to your delegate. They want to help. Full of ideas and need to know who your delegate is? Check out the SunLakesCC.com site. After logging in, click the District Delegate link at the top right of the home page. Contact information will appear in the dropdown menu. You can also pull out one of the newsletters that magically appear on your doorstep each month. Your District Delegate's contact information is always included. ~ Cal Martin From the Delegate Assembly We are starting to gear up for our Fall Festival Charity Weekend at the end of September.
