Happy August from the African Heritage Connection Club (AHCC)!
Approved as a club in May 2024, we are preparing to embark on a
series of wonderful events and activities. Funktion at the Junction,
a Celebration of Juneteenth (Freedom Day), held on June 27, was
a great first event. So many of you turned out to celebrate with us
and helped to make it an evening to remember. Over food and fun,
old friends reconnected and new friends were made. Corney Mims,
a Grammy winning artist — and our new neighbor — kicked the
night off with soulful, up-tempo selections delivered as only he
could. DJ Zoom (our own Ernest Dupre) kept the night alive by
playing a variety of old-school music that would not let our feet stay
still. Awww the memories … and if that was not enough, the crowd
enjoyed games and prizes. The Mistresses of Ceremony, Toi Johnson
and Tiffanie Turner, kept the evening moving and made sure that it
was a night for everyone. This was the first of many events that are
being planned.
The first general member meeting will be held in September (date
and location to be announced). Everyone is welcome. Come explore
the many African heritage connections that are amongst us here at
Sun Lakes. Learn, share, and have fun. We have only just begun!
