| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | AUGUST 2024 | 31 Reminder for those who have already signed up and paid, our August event is Aug. 4 and will feature the amazing trio of Audacity: Sheila James, Nancy Ford, and Gina Harlan. What a treat we are in for! For our July gathering, we had Fourth of July fare of hot dogs and hamburgers with all the fixings from Thomas Catering and it was very festive and plentiful. Our entertainment was a duo of Cowboy Mike and Nancy Balllinger. He conducts the Karaoke events at the Elks Club in Beaumont so some were aware of him but this was the first time he performed for our 80s Club. I was very pleasantly surprised by the variety of music he/they sang from different genres. They included The Carpenters, John Denver, George Strait, and many, many more. Some of the songs were: I Feel Lucky, Let's Have a Party, Crazy, It's Too Late Baby, Take me Home (Country Road), and a beautiful duet of Endless Love. They sang throughout people dishing up from the buffet and eating and I heard many, many compliments from people really responding to their music. We will definitely have them back again! Thank you, Mike and Nancy and welcome to our family of entertainers. The 80s Club is for our Sun Lakes residents near or over 80 years of age along with their guests, no matter their ages. Our events are always on the first Saturday of the month and begin at 3 pm, and include a brief meeting with announcements, then entertainment and the meals begin between 3:30 and 4 pm. Our attendance each month is very close to the capacity at the South Clubhouse and it makes for a very festive and interactive group. Come join us once for the meal price of $18 to see if you might enjoy our group and only if you do, do you need to join for the second time you attend. Our dues are $10 a year per person. Our meals are $18 per person. Our September event will be Sept. 7 and will feature the Sun Lakes married duo Elixir, Ellen and Dix Henneke. Get your checks to Donna Harrington (for $18 per person) at 5393 Riviera for our September event reservations before Sept. 1. If the event sells out, the box will be removed and an event closed note will be there. If you are mailing in your check, we must have it in by the deadline date. Make sure your phone number is on the check and please give us the name of any guests you are paying for and bringing. We're always at the South Clubhouse; people begin arriving at 2:30 to get checked in and get their seats, and the program starts at 3 pm. Please make your checks out to 80s Plus Club.
