Nancy Hunt was back with us and offered a demonstration and a PowerPoint presentation including a variety of methods for planting succulents in pots and gardens and she showed us a number of unusual specimens. Pat Pennington of the Garden of Eat-em fame — at least with Sun Lakers — gave a brief PowerPoint on growing squash, specifically zucchini and patty pans. Pat is planning an equally informative PowerPoint on the multitude of methods for growing tomatoes as well as their care and feeding. Gardening gets a bit hot and sticky this time of year, but as the above quote suggests, WOW the tomatoes are worth it. The photo at left from last year, is Pat with his cherry tomato plants that are taller than he is. For various reasons we've had to reschedule Linda Vieira's talk, but we're happy to say Linda Vieira will be with us in August to update us on ocean farming. Although ocean farming is an area for application, nevertheless it's an intriguing subject. A few years ago, she gave an interesting talk and photo presentation on how the ocean is being used as a food source. It will be just as interesting to see how that is progressing. Linda has also promised to bring samples of edible sea weed to try. Guests are always welcome to attend one of our meetings which are on the second Wednesday of every month at 10 am in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom (unless otherwise announced). Dues are only $15 a year.
