| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | AUGUST 2024 | 53
The Veterans of Sun Lakes CC had an incredible honor on June
11 of a Presentation of Colors, (American and military f lags) with
accompanying music for each branch. We thank the Master Board for
approving the request of purchasing these f lags and allowing them to be
put on permanent display on the entryway to the Clubhouse. We are in
the process of growing our membership, now available to all Sun Lakers
regardless of military service. Almost all residents in Sun Lakes either
served themselves or had a family member or friend in the military at
one time or another and thus we are open to anyone in Sun Lakes that
supports our mission and our military.
Our club was honored to be the first club in Sun Lakes to lead in the
July Fourth Parade. Honors go to Officer Torres of the Beaumont Office
of the California Highway Patrol, who led us well. He was followed by our
club banner, carried by cadets from the elite Air Force JROTC Unit from
Beaumont High School. The cadets were led by Msgt. Edward Brackins,
USAF Retired. We thank both the CHP and the cadets for performing
"above and beyond the call of duty" in sweltering heat. Their presence
and participation elevated the parade beyond all expectations. Thank you
so much.
Our club has grown to nearly 140 members strong, including 40 combat
veterans. We are blessed to have some of the best people in the world,
which includes WWII, Korea, VietNam, the Gulf War, and their family
members who stood by and supported these warriors while they served
our country well. We stand with our active duty personnel and support
our military all over the globe. If you would like to join our outstanding
organization, come to our monthly general meetings the second Tuesday
of the month at 9 am sharp in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. We are non-
political in nature and there is no cost at this time. Just come and be part
of the camaradie we share as we honor this great nation.
