Mahjongg Club
Wow! I am declaring our summer "Stay and
Play" social a huge success. Did we really have 85
of our 130 members in attendance? It looks like
the "Stay and Play" concept is a winner. It was a bit
of an experiment for the club. We wanted to offer
a venue at which the competition was available to new players as
well as seasoned players. Each attendee was able to self-declare their
level of play and were seated at tables accordingly. This event was our
first mixed-skill trial. Many thanks to Jacqueline Ettinger, Christy
Abshier, Janeen Sheelen, Cindy Smith and Julie Pashkowski for a fun
afternoon in our new Lanai. Congratulations to all prize winners. We
are now looking forward to our October Social.
The July American MahJongg Basic Training class taught nine
students to play. We had a number of members volunteer as table
coaches during class. Several of them have come to
the practice session on Saturday afternoon. Look
forward to meeting them at our next social.
The OHCC Social Clubs Board of Directors requires
all clubs to conduct an in-person election of club
officers in the fourth quarter. To that end, our MahJongg Club has
established a nominating committee. A few volunteers have come
forward to serve on the 2025 nominating committee. You can make
their job easier by opting to serve the club as an officer in 2025. Please
consider a one-year officer term which will begin in January, 2025.
All interested in serving as an officer in 2025, please send an email
to ohccmahjongg@gmail.com. A member of the committee will
respond to discuss your interest.

We play bridge all summer long in between traveling and enjoying the weather
in SO- CAL! You are welcome to join us on Tuesdays from 5 to 7:30 pm and on
select Fridays from 1 to 4:30pm. If you are a new player, feel free to join us on
Wednesdays from 3:30 to 5 pm for some "training sessions " to learn the rules of
