26 | OHCC LIVING | AUGUST 2024 | I hope you were able to attend the fabulous performance by Dr. Michael Munson on July 6. It was part of the summer concert series that the Choral society has sponsored the last few years. The concert was a wonderful selection of classic music, some Gershwin favorites and some ragtime numbers. It was a wonderful night with an excellent turnout. Next summer we will most likely be sponsoring another fabulous night of music during the Choral Society's summer hiatus. This year's summer hiatus will only last for one more month, then it's back to work (too much fun to really be called work) as we start preparing for our holiday concert in December. Mark your calendars early for Dec. 8 at 2 pm in Abravanel Hall. This concert is always very popular, and you don't want to miss it. The best place to observe the concert is up on the stage. If you love to sing or would like to help us out with any part of the process of putting on an event like this, please consider joining us. Of course you won't just be observing, but you will enjoy the experience. The chorale consists of a wonderful group of people who love music and love to sing. We always have a good time even though our brilliant director works us hard in the process. We are always looking for new members. The first rehearsal is on Sept. 5 at 10:15 am in Abravanel Hall. Drop in and see if this is something you might be interested in doing. We would love to have you join us. Written by Jack Shabel Choral Society Should you invest in pet insurance? When thinking about getting coverage you need to decide if you can cover potential out of pocket costs yourself should the need arise. Remember, you can invest the premiums you will be paying into a dedicated account for future costs. Most plans also do not cover hereditary conditions. What Is Pet Insurance? Pet insurance is a health insurance policy for your pet that pays for medical expenses and sometimes other costs. There is usually a deductible before coverage starts. Even after your deductible is paid, the pet insurance may not pay 100% of vet bills depending on the payment reimbursement chosen. How to Find the Best Pet Insurance for You: Pet insurance plans can be hard to compare in an apples-to-apples way. Coverage, exclusions and pricing variations make it hard to calculate the potential value of each plan. Here's how to find the best pet insurance for you. Pet Lovers Club Pet insurance can generally be broken down into these plan types: Comprehensive coverage. Sometimes called a "nose-to-tail" policy, this typically provides coverage for accidents and injuries, including serious or chronic illness, hereditary conditions, diagnostic tests, surgeries, treatments, and wellness, such as routine veterinary checkups and vaccinations. This would be the most expensive plan. Accident and illness coverage. This type of policy typically covers vet bills for accidents (like an ACL rupture) and illnesses, including common illnesses, hereditary conditions and serious illness (like cancer). You won't be covered for wellness exams without adding an additional rider. Accident-only coverage. This type of policy covers vet bills only if your pet is injured in an accident, and you won't be covered for illness- related medical bills. Pet wellness coverage. This type of plan covers wellness-related medical expenses, like routine veterinary checkups, flea and heartworm prevention, and vaccinations. Find the coverage level you're comfortable with. When you purchase a pet insurance policy, you'll usually select an annual maximum, a deductible and a reimbursement level. Annual maximum coverage: ranging from an annual limit of $5,000 up to an unlimited payout. Deductible: choice of deductible from $100 to $500. You'll pay a deductible once for every new condition every year. Reimbursement percentage: choice of a reimbursement levels ranging from 70-90 percent. Written by Karen Hasting & Ellen Kippel
