30 | OHCC LIVING | AUGUST 2024 | Newbies Newbies is the official welcoming group for Ocean Hills Country Club residents (homeowners and renters). We have quarterly gatherings where new and established residents can meet, mingle, and get to know each other. We enjoyed a turnout of 90 people at the June 22 gathering in the Lanai. Guests enjoyed cake and ice cream courtesy of our sponsor, Barbara DuDeck, OHCC Resident Realtor, Your Sunny San Diego Connection. We would also like to acknowledge with gratitude the time and effort donated by our Newbies Ambassadors and Volunteers, without whom these events would not be possible. A prize was awarded to the newest residents Alan and Candice Ameneyro, who moved to OHCC from Florida only five days prior to the event. A second prize was awarded to Joe and Beth Grohovsky, who moved here from the farthest away: Yardley, PA. We just had to give away a third prize to new residents Bob and Migdon Jann after they shared this fun fact: They have quadruplet great grandchildren! The two boys and two girls are now age 11. We had a silent auction for a nice bottle of wine donated by Sandi Royce, and raffled off two OHCC hats and two ladies' polo shirts before wrapping up the fun afternoon. This month we are spotlighting new residents Martin and Jennifer Budoff, who moved to 5055 Alicante Way on May 20, 2024. Marty was born in Tennessee but spent much of his early life on the West Coast. He is retired from the Navy and had a subsequent 24-year career with a major defense contractor. Jenn is originally from the New England area, worked in Theater Lighting Design for a while, and finished her career as a Graphic Designer. She and Marty met at a Mini Cooper Club meeting in San Diego, where they bonded over their nearly identical 2003 Mini Cooper S cars. Marty's job took them to Chesapeake, VA for 18 years. Once they retired in November 2023, they took a fabulous three-month trip to England, Scotland, Ireland, Germany, France, Belgium and The Netherlands. The allure of our perfect climate, as well as having two grown children and four grandchildren in the area, prompted them to buy their new home sight unseen and move to OHCC. Welcome, Marty and Jenn! The next Newbies gathering will be held on Sat., Sept. 7 in Abravanel Hall from 2 to 5 pm. Details will be publicized well in advance. We are an informal group that (usually) gathers on the Palm Court to socialize and listen to music from the 60s, 70s and 80s.
