| OHCC LIVING | AUGUST 2024 | 33 Summer is upon us and Sewing, Etc. is as busy as ever! Knitters and Crocheters are meeting on Saturday mornings from 10 am to 12 pm to work on their "challenge;" Quilting support is happening every Friday morning from 9 to 11:30 am in the Sewing Room; our Kneedlers (knitters) and Hookers (crocheters) gather every Tuesday from 3 to 4:30 pm; and on Tuesday evenings (6 to 8 pm) and Fridays (12 to 3 pm) several quilters, knitters, crocheters and sewers get together for "Sew & Chats." All these gatherings are loosely structured and help to keep us in touch. Please feel free to join any or all of them! Our "free to members" classes on Aug. 3 will be "Basic Sewing with a Serger" beginning at 9:30 am followed by "Essential Hand and Machine Sewing Skills," with both classes finishing at 12 pm. On Thurs., Aug. 15, we will be making decorations for the fall. Last year's class was such a hit that we decided to repeat the workshop. It will also be held from 9:30 am to 12 pm. All classes are in the Sewing, Etc. Room. Looking ahead: sign-ups will be available this month for our Fall "Bruncheon" that will happen on Thurs., Sept. 5. This is a potluck event for members only and will be held in our new Lanai area. Don't forget about our "rideshare" service to meetings and workshops that are held in our Clubhouse. If you are interested in attending and have no transportation, please call Sharon Philippe (760) 500-3086. We have a list of volunteers who will be happy to get you to and from the event. If you are interested in participating in our activities and are not sure who to reach out to for further information, please call MaryLu Belisle (952) 454-1931 for more information. Club The Genealogy Interest Group is a growing group of individuals who want to find out about their heritage and their ancestry. Curiosity about those who came before and formed us is important. The group provides tools to do your research and help in getting started. For the experienced we can offer suggestions to break through the brick walls of past generations. Meeting with others looking in the same geographical areas is a great help. We have both Apple computers and PCs in the computer room. It is helpful if you want to bring your own laptop. We will meet for a Help Session on Fri., Aug. 9 at 10 am. Newcomers are welcome. All sessions can be seen on the TAG calendar. We are happy to offer the World Explorer version of Ancestry.com free of charge in the computer room. This program would cost an individual over $100 a month. We also offer the Family Tree Maker on several of the computers in the lab. A family tree can be started and compiled with either or both of these programs with many hints to assist in your research. Coordinators are Dorothy Miller, Shirley Rock and Peggy Singh. Contact us at rootsatOHCC@gmail.com Genealogy Interest Group Loom Hat class Knitting Challenge Log Cabin quilting class
