36 | OHCC LIVING | AUGUST 2024 | Village Vets Hello Village Vets! We have passed the half year mark, and we have had some magnificent events, but a whole bunch are coming up. Buckle up and grab a beverage of your choice, here is what is ahead for 2024: Diaper Drive: Aug. 7-15 — Yup, you are reading this right, the Camp Pendleton Armed Forces YMCA has informed us that there is a dire need for diapers. We did this in 2022 and blew the drawers off, pun intended, by providing over 70 boxes to Camp Pendleton Marine and Navy families. We know we can do better this year. The drive will begin on Aug. 7 through the 15. Please drop off boxed diapers at 4899 Galicia Way. Our goal is to fill the garage. For additional details, contact Bob Bechill at (209) 663-5088. Ages one month to three years. Monetary donations for this drive will also be accepted. Army and Navy Academy Visit: Sept. 26. This is our annual off site. Join Tour Leader Mike Welch and our merry band as we visit the cadets for a tour and lunch. The Army and Navy Academy is in Carlsbad. Just walking around the grounds is worth it. Contact Mike for additional details at (760) 213-4221. General Meeting and Officer Elections: Oct. 24. We are still working out final details, but we will have another exciting speaker in store. We also need to elect officers for 2025. Interested in becoming the Commander, Vice Commander, Secretary or Treasurer, please let the nominating chair, Tom Brennan, know by September 30th. He can be reached at (760) 525-1936. Veterans Day OHCC 2024: Nov. 11. Our theme this year will be the Liberation of Europe and the Normandy landings. Veterans Day OHCC is always a marquee event, and we have about everything lined up except for a bagpiper! If you know of a bagpiper who would pipe the colors in, please contact me. Need a volunteer bagpiper, please. Holiday Party 2024: Dec. 7. Our theme this year will be Pearl Harbor. Join sailors and families from Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton for great food, questionable dancing, and camaraderie as we begin the process of transiting to 2025! A final note for this month's OHCC Living, I am so proud of our Village Vets and especially our Board of Directors and their husbands and wives who willingly step up and volunteer for every event. Thank you! ~ Bob Bechill, (209) 663-5088, bechillnavy@ gmail.com
