Harris Golden donated dips and a few dozen handmade Munich-
style pretzels for our Members' Meeting. The club provided free beer
to go with the pretzels, and everyone enjoyed them in the Gallery
right outside the Billiard Room.
After the meeting, we held our Annual 9-ball Club Championship.
To advance, you needed to win two out of three games. "B" players
could win a game by sinking either the 9 or the 8. That large handicap
saw a number of good players go down in flames.
Peter Fiore won his semi-final match to go on to the finals. "Harris
(Pretzelogist) Golden" played a tactical semi-final match against
Charlie Payne. After the first break, Harris had no good shot. Charlie
suggested he try shooting the 1-9 combination to win the game. It
was a terribly difficult shot, and Charlie hoped Harris would try it
and leave the 9-ball near the pocket. Harris said, "What the hell?" and
took the shot. The nearly impossible shot went right in, and Harris
won the first game to all-round applause, even from Charlie. Charlie,
his spirit broken, lost another game, and Harris went on to the finals.
Free beer and pretzels! Ten tournaments, each with $85 in prize
money and no entry fee! Get in on this good deal by paying $7 at the
front desk to join us.
