SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | AUGUST 2024 11 By Dan Frey, Resident The 2024 Bocce Ball Club Tournament kicked off under perfect conditions this year, with a sparkling-blue sky and warm temperatures greeting players on Saturday, June 29th. Knowing the heat would rise, organizers started play early at 9 am. Before the competition began, the club took a moment to celebrate outstanding players. Diana Carofano received recognition for her consistent dedication, earning the title of "Best Attendance" for the season. In a close race for individual glory, Randy Daniels and Dennis Riemann shared the "Most Wins" award, each securing an impressive five victories. Twenty enthusiastic members battled it out on the courts, with cheers and friendly competition filling the air. By day's end, Diana Carofano and Dan Frey emerged victorious, etching their names onto the coveted 12-year perpetual plaque proudly displayed in the Lodge. Following the exciting matches, a delicious potluck luncheon brought everyone together. Players shared stories, celebrated achievements, and enjoyed a hearty meal before heading home happy and full. As the summer heat and pesky bugs recede, the new Bocce Ball season gears up for an early October launch. All residents are invited to join the Tuesday afternoon games – it's a social atmosphere, and the game itself is easy to learn! Bocce Ball Champions Crowned Under Sunny Skies VETERANS & FRIENDS By Georganne Wellfare, Resident Those who attended the Veterans & Friends Pancake & Sausage Breakfast on Flag Day, June 14, agreed that Charlie Cashen's recipe was delicious! Thanks to Charlie & Ron Officer for flipping pancakes hot off the griddle to the plates. Another successful event. The SDV Veterans and Friends Club will not meet in August, however, our monthly sponsorship to Mt. San Jacinto College Veterans will still continue. The next meeting at SDV will be Thursday, Sept. 12 at 10 am. Upcoming events: Nov 11, 2024 – Veterans Day Luncheon & Awards November – Food Drive for those in need December – Sparks of Love (toys for local children)
