| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | SEPTEMBER 2024 | 47 Happy Cookers September's bounty offers a variety of f lavors as rich and colorful as the autumn leaves. It's a time to savor the harvest, embrace the comfort of warm dishes, and gather around the table with gratitude. Bon Appétit… ~ Raelene Kretchman September invites us to cherish the harvest, indulge in the warmth of comforting meals, and come together at the table with thankful hearts. As we revel in these seasonal treats, the kitchen transforms into a hub of culinary innovation, filled with the enticing scents of vegetables roasting and stews gently bubbling, all blending beautifully with the fresh, crisp air of autumn. In this spirit of gathering and celebration, The Happy Cookers invite you to a special event, A Taste of Culture, on Sept. 27 at the South Clubhouse. Join us at 11 am for a f lavorful journey through the diverse cultures of our club's membership. This gathering is not just about tasting food, but about sharing the stories and traditions that make our dishes unique. As we celebrate the beauty of autumn, we're also honoring the rich culinary traditions passed down through our families. Here are some ideas on how you can participate: • Bring Your Signature Dish: Prepare a recipe that holds special cultural significance for you. Accompany your dish with a note detailing its origins and the memories it holds. • Share Your Heritage: Dive into the history of your dish, revealing the special tweaks passed down through generations and the occasions it graces in your family. • Exchange Recipes: If you're willing, bring copies of your recipe to share. This exchange preserves and spreads our cultural wealth through food. • Engage and Connect: More than just eating, this is a time for sharing laughter, stories, and perhaps even learning a new cooking technique or two. It's about celebrating the diversity that unites us. • And if you're feeling extra daring, embrace the spirit by wearing clothing that ref lects your culture, adding an extra layer of personal expression to our gathering. This event is a celebration of the histories, cultures, and communities that enrich our lives, embodied in the universal language of food. For those who love to cook, or just love to eat, this is the club for you! For information on membership, contact Barbara Elness at (407) 432-8363 or barbed1951@aol.com or President-Pat Coie at (909) 262-5005. Arlene's Breakfast Club is a group of wonderful Sun Lakes ladies who enjoy a morning of fellowship and breakfast. We meet at 9 am the second Thursday of the month in the Main Clubhouse Restaurant. We have a variety of speakers on various topics and support our local veterans with donations. We have a raffle of cute gifts also! Our breakfast is a buffet for $18 including tax. There are no dues; just pay for your meal. We must provide an accurate count to the Restaurant so enough food is prepared. We also require a 24-hour cancellation call to Patti to avoid you being charged for the buffet meal. Please call Patti Donitini at (951) 769-3271 for more information and to RSVP.
