24 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | SEPTEMBER 2024 | Golf Club From the President, Mike Caldwell: It is early September, and the dog days of summer are still upon us. The hot and humid period of summer that begins when Sirius appears in the sky, just before the sun, near the end of July, marks the hottest time of the year. The Romans referred to this period as "the days of the dog star." The seemingly endless days of hot and sultry weather was a perfect time to get away. By the time this article is published, my wife and I will have returned from the coast of northern California and Oregon where we enjoyed cooler temperatures and some affordable golf. From the Vice President, Bob Morriss: The "Four Seasons Hemet, Beaumont and Murrieta Golf Tournament" was held on Tues., June 25. Four Seasons Hemet took first, second and third places while Four Seasons Murrieta took fourth place in the tournament. Our next tournament will be on Sept. 19 at the Rancho California course in Murrieta. This tournament will be the second in our series of matches which we hope will continue. Four Seasons Beaumont will host the third tournament, most likely at the Tukwet course. After our two "free golf lessons," sponsored by the Hemet Four Seasons Golf Club, the Club added a few new members: Gary Vosburg, and Alan Wells. We also had a returning member: Bob McManus. From the Secretary, Mike McLaughlin: Some sad news! Long time Club member and Board member, Addis "Scotty" Scott passed away this past week. Scotty was a great guy, and he will be missed by his golfing buddies. He was a legendary Tournament Chair, getting out the scores to everyone before they got home from the game, especially those players that enjoyed extended post- game festivities. The excuse for being gone for a long time because of slow play no longer kept them out of trouble! From the Tournament Chair, Elliot Yaeger: The September Schedule for the Hemet Four Seasons Golf Club is as follows: Sept. 3 at 7:30 am: Founder's Cup Match Play Finals 1st & 2nd Matches and 3rd & 4th Place Matches. Others Will Play Partners Mixed Flight Best Net Score per Hole Sept. 5 at 8:30 am: Away Game at Soboba ($55) Low Net Sept. 10 at 7:30 am: Team One-Two-Three Best Net Scores per Hole Sept. 17 at 7:30 am: Partners Best Net Score per Hole Sept, 24 at 7:30 am: Team Scramble Minimum 3 Tee Shots From the Membership Chair, Blair Becker: The Club reminds those interested in joining the club that we offer an A, B, or C flight, based on your handicap. This stratification allows members to be able to compete at a similar skill level. During the summer months, we tee off at 7:30 am, allowing us to finish before it gets too hot. Our club is made up of men and women golfers at every level. If you are interested in joining, please contact Blair Becker. Welcome to our new members: Alan Wells, Edy Panico, and Bob McManus (who has rejoined). From the Social Committee Chair, Meredith Becker: The Golf Club Social Committee once again had a very fun evening at our annual BBQ/Pool Party! Great food, fun and friends! We are looking forward to November when we will be having a Bar-Room Trivia Night! More details will follow next month! From the Rules Chair, Bill Swinney: Did you know? Rule 18: Out of Bounds. The out of bounds markers (white stakes) are actually out of bounds. The edge of the course is defined by the course side edge of the out of bounds markers. The entire ball must be across the edge to be deemed out of bounds. What are your options? (1) Return to where you hit your previous shot and within one club length, no closer to the hole, drop a ball and with a one stroke penalty play your next shot. You may tee the ball up if it was in the teeing area. (2) Estimate where you believe the ball went out of bounds and walk a straight line to the edge of the fairway and within two club lengths, no closer to the hole, drop a ball and with a two-stroke penalty play your next shot. Remember, if you played a provisional ball from your previous spot, you must play that ball once you have determined that your original ball is out of bounds. From the Greens Chair, Larry Becker: Wet spots on some greens continue to be a problem. Ray is taking steps to resolve the issue: sprinkler malfunctions.
