Art Lovers 2024 has been a busy time for the Art Lovers Club. It started with a very successful day at Do Dues Day garnering 28 renewing members and 22 new members. Susan Pick, President and Ronnie Duberstein, Membership Chair, greeted visitors at the Art Lovers Club's table. One of our favorite meetings is our Members' Treasures and this January's meeting was no exception. ere were so many spectacular and interesting presentations. Some of the items shown were a Carnival Glass punch bowl, a Moroccan tray, lithographs, jewelry and several paintings. February and March saw the Art Lovers driving to the Del Mar Fairgrounds Wyland Center to see the immersive experiences of Beyond Van Gogh and Beyond Monet. Both shows were truly spectacular. rough the use of cutting-edge projection technology, the artists' works were seen in unprecedented clarity covering all the walls and even the floor. Visitors marveled at the feeling of being engulfed in Vincent van Gogh's and Claude Monet's paintings and of the amazing technology that created this unique visual experience. Walls and floors were wrapped in light, color, and shapes that swirl, dance and refocus into bridges, lily ponds, cafes and landscapes. Selma Leighton, a woman of many words, delighted her fellow Art Lovers with her very interesting stories and slides of her favorite art pieces. She is a wealth of information and she and her late husband, Norman, have had personal connections with many artists. One of her favorites is a portrait of her husband by William Wharton who was also a well-known writer. For OHCC's 40th Anniversary Celebration, Kathleen Scoggin demonstrated her unique style of abstract painting by spraying copious amounts of water on her paper. Aer applying paint in large swatches, she moved and tilted the paper to form beautiful designs. It is a pleasure to watch these designs unfold. As is our yearly custom, we visited the Oceanside Museum of Art and learned so much from their knowledgeable docents. Our Directors are busy planning our fall trips and speakers. In August, Susan and Ernie Pick talked about their recent European trip, sharing photos of the art and architecture of Amsterdam, Germany, France and Switzerland. Come see the beautiful exhibit of photography in the Art Studio! Photography, unlike paintings, captures the scene in a millisecond, so timing is critical to the end result. Anticipating lighting, shadows, movement, orientation, textures, and moreā€¦ all play a role in capturing the image. Come see the exposures revealed by our resident photographers/artists: Chuck Fasilis, Diana Kaminsky, Ernie Pick, Jeff Powell, Joan Comito, Kathy ornton, Mike ornton, Roger Eubank, Susan Fishman, u Bellomo and Vince Siciliano. ey are very talented, and we appreciate their willingness to share their work with us.
