30 | OHCC LIVING | SEPTEMBER 2024 | Newbies Newbies is the official welcoming group for Ocean Hills Country Club residents (homeowners and renters). We have quarterly potlucks where new and established residents can meet, mingle, and get to know each other. e gatherings are loosely structured and provide new residents with an opportunity to introduce themselves. Our goal is to have you walk away with new friends and a feeling of community. is group is for residents only and is not open to guests. Club membership is the fastest and best way for new residents to make friends and become involved in their new community. OHCC has 37 clubs offering a wide range of activities. We encourage Newbies to join clubs and explore opportunities to be of service to others. Living in OHCC is truly a year-round summer camp and We're So Glad You're Here. is month we are introducing new residents John and Pauline Clark, who moved to 6043 Piros Way on March 10, 2024. ey lived in Vista for the previous four years, and prior to that they lived in Carlsbad for 30 years. Pauline is originally from England and John is from Minnesota. John was stationed in England with the military when he met Pauline, who was working as a hair stylist. Married since 1969, they have two daughters and a son, five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and another on the way! Both John and Pauline are avid golfers. John has been a PGA- level golf professional for more than 50 years, running country clubs while Pauline worked in golf pro shops. ey partially retired in the mid-1990s, and John worked as an instructor at the San Diego Golf Academy for four years. Aer that, they traveled extensively on Crystal Cruises, taking 170 cruises (including 14 world cruises) from 1999 until 2020, arranging golf excursions for vacationing passengers. John and Pauline visited every country where a ship can dock and played golf on lush courses throughout the world. ey also both love gardening and Pauline enjoys a weekly bridge game with old friends. is delightful, upbeat couple said it best: "Life is like golf. It's not perfect, it's not easy, but it's good." e next Newbies gathering will be held on Sat., Sept. 7, from 2 to 5 pm in Abravanel Hall. e deadline to sign up was Aug. 24, but if you missed it, send us an email and we'll try to accommodate. We are an informal group that (usually) gathers on the Palm Court to socialize and listen to music from the 60s, 70s and 80s.
