32 | OHCC LIVING | SEPTEMBER 2024 | Village Vets e Dog Days of Summer are here. We hope you are enjoying your time in the shade and perhaps doing a little traveling and enjoying what this great country has to offer. July and August were busy months for the Village Vets. Our July General Meeting featuring Dee Wardell's and Joe Ashby's presentation on their return to Normandy was informational, inspirational, and, at times, emotional. eir presentation was a suitable tribute to the courage and sacrifice that occurred on D-Day. ank you, Dee and Joe, for once again going the extra step on behalf of the entire OHCC Veterans Community. Speaking of community, I'm so proud of the entire Ocean Hills Community in supporting the Diaper Drive for Armed Forces YMCA Camp Pendleton. When the dust settles, we will probably have turned over 200+ boxes of diapers to the YMCA on Aug. 19. We had some incredibly generous donations internally but one of our largest was from Linda Beckham, Owner of Grocery Outlet Oceanside and her family. Featured in the picture above, she gave us a matching discount on all diaper purchases. We cleaned her store out… twice! ank you, Linda, and thank you all! Our next event is on Sept. 26 when we visit the Army and Navy Academy in Carlsbad. Join Tour Leader Mike Welch as we visit the cadets for a tour and FREE lunch in the mess hall. We will carpool over starting at 8:30 am. Meet in the overflow parking lot. You don't want to miss this event. e Army and Navy Academy is beautiful and the young men attending and the teachers guiding them are impressive beyond measure. Contact Mike for additional details at (760) 213-4221. Other major events including a General Meeting on Oct. 24, Veterans Day on Nov. 11, and our year end party on Dec. 7 are coming up. Add them to your calendar now! ~ Bob Bechill, (209) 663-5088, bechillnavy@gmail.com Club W "e pain of grief is just as much a part of life as the joy of love; it is perhaps the price we pay for love, the cost of commitment." ~ Dr. Colin Murray Parkes If you're wondering how to recover from losing your spouse, keep in mind that you should mourn at your own pace.
