From the Desk of Kathy C. Stevens
I love words – I always have! Words can be used to express humor, serious thought, provide
instruction, express sadness, and unfortunately, cause harm. Words can be expressed verbally or in
writing. Sometimes an apology can mend the hurt from an irresponsible word, and sometimes no
amount of damage control can change the harm caused by the misuse of words. In the world we live
in today, it is very important to think about what "words" we choose to read and what we choose to
put in our minds. What we believe becomes our reality. Journalism is not what it was in the past,
and with the increase of social media, it is almost impossible to discern the truth.
All seven members of the Board are volunteers. They literally have retired from a "paid"
job, yet believe that it is important to donate their time to support a community of 1,586
homes – almost 3,000 residents. The Board spends many hours each month in meetings
with advisory committees, City representatives, regulatory agencies, tax and financial
consultants, golf course management experts, attorneys and other individuals with the
specific expertise on subjects of concern. And each month the Board uses "words" to
communicate the information they learn. Information changes because life changes, laws
change, the courts go in a different direction than initially anticipated, guidance and
direction from agencies changes, and situations are misunderstood.
The demographics of this community are changing. The 100+ acre property
has physical needs and the 3,000 residents have individual needs. The HOA and
Board must balance a myriad of issues that ultimately make up the "whole"
of this community. We all must be vigilant in our choice of words to put in
our minds – know that they have power!
Be well dear friends…
