42 | LIFE IN SOLERA | SEPTEMBER 2024 |
It is starting to cool off (?). But, PICKLEBALL is still the hot sport in America and
here at Solera. So, if you want to jump on the bandwagon, come join us Monday,
Wednesday, and Saturday at 7 am. Some of our more enthusiastic (ie CRAZY) folks
play Tuesday and Thursday at 6 pm. It seems that not even 90° temps will hinder
them from playing. (See photo below. It was 92°.)
On July 13, we held our first annual summer cookout. Look out SIPPERS — we
can party, too!
Thirty five of our members attended what most would say was a very enjoyable
event. Martha Hubbs took care of keeping track of who was coming and what food
they were bringing, Gayleen Henning, Sandy Stearn and Amy Dietz were in charge of
setup. Chris Hubbs and Jim Hickey were the "GRILL MASTERS." Jim's wife Rhonda
made sure the grillers had everything they needed. Gaby DeWitt and Kathy Mathews
helped clean up the room, while Dave James had the unenviable job of grill clean up.
We are already planning our Christmas party!
If you plan to join us make sure you have the proper court (tennis) shoes. Then
watch a couple of YouTube videos to get a feel for the game. You don't need to buy a
paddle right away, because many of us bring an extra paddle. We will be glad to lend
you one for the morning. Since we are such a friendly group, we will be more than
happy to help you learn the rules and skills that you need to be successful. We have
one basic saying, which is NO BALL IS WORTH THE FALL.
COME JOIN US! For more information call/text either Sandy Stearn at (717) 542-
0481 or me George Dietz at (614) 940-9506. Paddles up!
