FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | SEPTEMBER 2024 7
In July, the Banning City Council held a public hearing regarding
the Banning Point Warehouse Project. Two specific items were
discussed relating to the project.
One item was to review the previous City Council decision to
approve the project because of bias by former City Council Person
Mary Hamlin. As requested by the Pass Action Group, the approval
was reversed because of the bias.
The second item was to deny the warehouse proposal. No motion
was made to approve the project; however, Council Member Flynn
then made a motion to disapprove the project.
The Banning City Attorney noted there was a process to make a
resolution to deny the project. A motion was made and seconded to
direct city staff to create the resolution to disapprove the Banning
Pointe Warehouse. In a vote of three to two, the disapproval
resolution was placed on the Aug. 27 City Council Agenda. The two
dissenting votes were from Mayor Sanchez and Council Member
Wallace.
At a July Town Hall at Sun Lakes, there was almost a unanimous
vote to move forward with an appeal, if necessary.
The Beaumont Pointe Warehouse Project, which was approved
by the City of Beaumont's City Council, is moving forward.
Currently, the request for approval for annexation of the warehouse
property location has been submitted to Local Agency Formation
Commission (LAFCO).
Once the request for approval by LAFCO is received, then the area
of the warehouse would be part of Beaumont and the warehouse
property would be entitled to be part of the City of Beaumont sewer
system.
The project's groundbreaking is way off because certain criteria
must be met before the warehouse is built and later occupied.
More information will be reported as it becomes available.
