62 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | SEPTEMBER 2024 Ladies Putters The heat wave in July forced us to cancel a few play days. As much as we love to play, we are very careful not to schedule putting when the temperature is extreme. But, when we were able to get to play, we still had fun. So, come on out and join us. It's a low-impact, "high fun and social" group, and the best part is no experience is necessary. We have extra putters and balls if you'd like to come out and give it a try. Our nine-hole putting green is located at The Courts, behind the pool area. Our putting days/times are Mondays at 4 pm and Fridays at 9 am. For more information, please contact Bonnie Brown at (951) 337-0833 or Elaine Brown at (626) 589-9791. ~ Phyllis Kates Residents have walked by us at The Summit on Tuesday nights and their curiosity brings them out to the grassy area to ask, "What is Cornhole?" Two- person teams compete by tossing three bags, approx 27', to land on a slanted board with a circle cut out. If they land on the board, they score one point. Landing in the hole scores three points. Scores are tallied until a team scores 21 points and wins by two. There have been many theories as to who invented the game, from the Blackhawk Tribe of Native Americans, to Germany, to a farmer in Iowa who was passing the time by tossing cornhusks into a bucket. The game had a resurgence of popularity in 1974 when Popular Mechanics Magazine printed the woodworking plans. It quickly became a popular backyard game. Easy to make, easy to play, and easy to learn. The American Cornhole Association is the official governing body of Cornhole and you can catch tournaments on TV. Our Beaumont Bagger group started in 2021 with a very casual game with six people who met up at the Summit. The number of our participants grew quickly as the news of our fun group spread. We have organized the games so that everyone who wants to play gets a teammate assigned and has an opportunity to play as many games as they want! Or just come to be a spectator! It's a fun game to watch as well. Couples or singles are welcome. We give each person a different teammate each week. No experience, skill, or cost is required. Just bring a chair! Please come out and join us on Tuesdays at 5 pm at The Summit. Fob in and come outside to check in with us to get your name in the "hat" to play. Afterwards, we continue the fun, if you choose, and meet at LaCocina Mexican Restaurant. Any questions, please call or text Pat Barry at (951) 388-0441. ~ Pat Barry Beaumont Bagger Cornhole Group Patti Negrete and Michael Battistone Hank Negrete and Jolene Cooley
