FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | SEPTEMBER 2024 9 Happy September! Gosh, I can't believe we've already burned through the entire summer already. We have some awesome events this month, including the Killer Dueling Pianos, sponsored by Tails and Trails and benefiting the Haven Pet Center, a wonderful no- kill shelter. This will be a super entertaining evening on Thursday, Sept. 5 from 5:30 to 8 pm in the Ballroom. A beautiful grazing table (appetizers) and non-alcoholic beverages are included (feel free to bring your own alcoholic beverages). Tickets are only $50 each. Contact https://rebrand.ly/hpcdueling or Wayne Disher for more information. Social Committee is presenting a star-studded show on Saturday, Sept. 7 in The Lodge Ballroom. This is going to be a live Rat Pack show, with a tribute to Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., and Dean Martin. Next our neighborhood globe-trotters, Elizabeth and Phil Westbrook, will be hosting another one of their popular Latin Beats Dance on Friday, Sept. 13 at 6 pm in the Ballroom. The dance music is off-the-charts spicy and even if you're not a dancer, the Westbrooks always make it a fun time for everyone. This is a free event and all are welcome. The Bistro should be open and ready with some Latin dinner options to add f lavor to your evening; what a "cha-cha-arming" good time! If you have never come down to see the amazing Four Seasons Quilt Show, you have been missing out on some of the most insanely incredible artwork in the form of quilts that I have ever seen! I still have photos from last year that I show people because I can't believe these art pieces are quilts. The Quilt Show will be on Sunday, Sept. 15 from 10 am to 2 pm in the Ballroom and the Bistro will be making a delicious lunch special to enjoy after you check out these quilt masterpieces. The Amphitheater Grand Finale Concert is showcasing the Country Rock Band, The Silverados. I'm sad this will be our last Amphitheater Concert for the year, but the Silverados will take us out with f lair! Mark Lassen wrote the Amphitheater article on page 45 with a lot more details. Check it out and I look forward to seeing you at the concert. The Four Seasons Senior Olympic Games will be well under way this month, as all of our in-house teams and groups stage and run their own games, determining winners. There are also quite a few events to participate in, at the Valley Wide OLDlympics Games. We will be piggy-backing on their games, which include the events that we aren't doing onsite here. The winning results from our resident participation from both Valley Wide and our Four Seasons teams will be used to recognize these champion athletes at our Olympic Awards Ceremony on Oct. 20 at 1 pm in the Ballroom. Come and cheer for your neighbors as they receive their awards! Light refreshments will be served. Finally, I want to encourage you to join us for the Loggia Concert with our favorite dance band, American Made, on Sept. 28 at 5:30 pm. If you aren't familiar with this band, they play a huge variety of dance genres, so there's a little of everything, for everyone's taste. Juan and Stacy will be preparing another delicious dinner option to accompany the dance. Dinner will begin service at 5 pm. September is generally cooler outside than August, so I'm anticipating beautiful weather and a gorgeous sunset. There are no tickets or wristbands required, so just show up and enjoy. ~ Cindy Graves Activities Director's Report As of June 2024, there have been multiple organizational meetings between the main organizers of this proposed event (Greg Messick, Gracy Luna, and Cindy Graves) as well as with interested club members. Here's what we proposed to our Board of Directors: The hope is to hold a 2024 Four Seasons Senior Olympics during the weeks of Sept. 20 and Oct. 8. Four Seasons "athletic" clubs (officially-recognized clubs with an athletic component to their club activity; no cards, table games, or virtual activities) interested in participating would need to notify Cindy Graves of their: club name; club contact person; date/time of club event. Let Cindy know how many medals are provided for each participating club (first, second, and third place in categories). Each club must: • Schedule their own club events during the dates of Sept. 20 through Oct. 8 • Plan their own event • Restrict registration to Four Seasons residents only • No charge to residents; however, each club may charge a nominal fee to cover bottled water, light snacks if they wish • Determine their own age brackets of competition An Awards Ceremony would be planned for Oct. 20, time TBD when medals would be awarded and light refreshments would be served. The Four Seasons Olympics would be occurring in conjunction with the official Senior OLDlympics at Valley Wide in Hemet. Residents medaling in that competition will be considered for those sports not represented by Four Seasons clubs such as weight lifting and track and field and will be recognized during the Four Seasons Awards Ceremony. Keep your eyes open for the latest information on the Activities Blast and let the games begin! ~ Cindy Graves The Four Seasons Senior Olympics 2024
