18 SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | SEPTEMBER 2024 By Janet Boyce, Resident About 10 years ago, my family of sisters came up with an idea to meet annually for rest, relaxation, and meaningful connections for communication. Now that our kids were grown, and on their own, we had time to do just that. It became known as our Girls' Getaway, and we have done six trips so far, making wonderful memories together. Seven of us have gathered over the years: four sisters, myself, our mom, and her sister. We usually schedule five nights and six days through VRBO, or other kinds of B & Bs. So far, we have been to Las Vegas twice, Lake Arrowhead, Idyllwild, La Quinta, and Palm Springs. Our next trip will be to Julian this October. On our first Las Vegas trip, we stayed at the MGM Grand and saw e Lion King musical. For our second Las Vegas trip, we stayed at the Monte Carlo and saw e Phantom of the Opera. Most of us are not gamblers, but we still went inside many of the hotel/casinos to marvel at the impressive decorations. Our trips to Lake Arrowhead and Idyllwild were similar in that we mainly hung out at our cabin amongst the majestic trees and mountains. We only ventured out a couple of days to the local village for ice cream, shopping, and out to eat one night. During our week in La Quinta and Palm Springs, we stayed at our place to enjoy the pool and hot spa. We only went out once for our special dinner. We are looking forward to Julian this fall! e vacation rental is in the middle of an apple orchard where we will be able to pick apples. Of course, we will get a famous Julian apple pie to share, and go out to dinner in the little town one of the nights. Making these memories is priceless to us. During our stays, we do a large puzzle and play various games. We cook dinners together for four of the nights and go out to eat once. Sometimes, there's a special celebration, such as our mom's 95th birthday in Palm Springs two years ago. We talk a lot and share our respective lives. We have always been a close family, so these gatherings are special. Family is forever! GIRLS' GETAWAY
