Mrs. Green's Creature
In April, 1949, in Los Angeles, Martha Green discovered something in her kitchen that
frightened her so much that she ran screaming from the house. It was alive!
Neighbors offered to kill it for her, but the very religious Mrs. Green said, "Wait! No! God
must have sent it to me. Let it live!"
Thousands came to see it. They watched her feed it using an eyedropper.
Soon the newspaper and radio reporters elbowed their way into her yard — and
the story got legs of its own. Even Life Magazine ran a photo of the unique
creature.
Almost immediately, Los Angeles officials ordered Mrs. Green to
destroy it, but she went to court and prevailed — that is until
the city countered and set a date and time for its execution.
In the meantime, Mrs. Green established a church at their
home: sick, crippled, and ailing people came from afar and
swore that the creature had cured them.
Mrs. Green's beloved creature defiantly died on its own
just minutes before L.A. officials were to take its life.
Journalist Don Ray, has been investigating this story
for 40 years, and will be revealing to his fellow Solera
residents the never-before-told details of one of the
mysteries of this 75-year-old occurrence.
He'll show everyone the physical evidence on Mon.,
Oct. 7 at 4:30 pm in Oakmont Rooms 1 and 2.
