| LIFE IN SOLERA | OCTOBER 2024 | 3 FROM THE BOARD B Cind Bic Now that the long hot days of summer are coming to an end and the days become shorter, we all need to remain active. Being physically active is very beneficial for everyone regardless of age and physical shape. A walk for 10,15, 20 minutes can do wonders for the body and mind (but do it three to five times a week!). Solera's beautiful, well-maintained grounds are perfect for that walk with a friend, spouse, pet, or peacefully by yourself. Solera has a few outside activities that you can enjoy almost year around like bocce ball, pickleball, or tennis. Not a player? You are always welcome to walk over, have a seat and watch those who are playing any of these games … then walk back home. This may even help you sleep better at night and wake up with a clearer, fresh mind set. Staying active, embracing changes, and trying new things is excellent for personal growth. Be receptive to try something different, you may find brighter days lay ahead for you. Sleep is needed to rid the brain of 'waste protein' build-up. In other words, our sleep cycle is essentially a regular "brain cleaning" cycle. According to published research in the Journal of Psychology, older adults who are tested at their optimal time of day, the morning hours, not only perform better on demanding cognitive tasks, but also activate the same brain networks responsible for paying attention and suppressing distraction as younger adults, according to Canadian researchers. So, breathe in that sweet, cool fall air, go for a walk, and sleep well. You'll feel refreshed in the morning. I hope you enjoy the poem. "Sing To Me, Autumn" By Patricia L. Cisco Sing to me, Autumn, with the rustle of your leaves. Breathe on me your spicy scents that ow within your breeze. Dance with me, Autumn, your waltz that bends the boughs of trees. Now tell me all the secrets you've whispered to the seas. Sleep with me, Autumn, beneath your starlit skies. Let your yellow harvest moon shimmer in our eyes. Kiss me, Autumn, with your enchanting spellbound ways at changes all you touch into crimson golden days. Love me, Autumn, and behold this love so true at I'll be waiting faithfully each year to be with you.
