| LIFE IN SOLERA | OCTOBER 2024 | 39 GOLF CLUB Our first game in September was a Two-Person Scramble at Yucaipa. Tournament Director Jim Parker had this to say, "The weather wasn't too awful hot, and the course was in good shape for our Two-Person Scramble event. Play was very competitive, as we had ties for each of the top three places." Merele Chapman-Ed Young tied with Jim Parker-Ray Smith with a 6 under 66. A stroke back were the two teams of Manuel Magdaleno-Dave Scott and Arden Bates- Craig Martin. Another stroke back were the two third place teams of Stan Whitesel-Armand Silva and Dave Duncanson-Jerry Stearn. Very competitive between these six teams! CP's were won by: Young 1' 5", Parker 16' 0", Tom Hamerla 3' 6", and R. Smith 7' 6". August wrapped up the month with a Two Flight Low Gross and Low Net affair. Toss in recognizing players with the fewest putts yielded lots of winners. Dave Sampson brought his "A" game to take first place honors in the B Flight Low Gross and the fewest putts (30). Bob Umeck was first in the A Flight Low Gross. A Flight Net winners were Silva, Bob Marks and Gary Stange while B Flight had Jim Karalun, Young and Kelly Bock leading the way. Also showing up on the leader board for fewest putts were Ernie Salvador, John Dockery, Umeck and Young. The third week in August featured a Foursomes Three Best Balls tournament which generated several positive comments regarding the format and Parker looks to add a few more to the schedule in the future. There was a tie for first place (14 under) between the Tony Smith- Chapman-Young-Salvador group, and the Umeck-Bud Harris-Stu Osborne-Glenn Bradd foursome. Finishing in second place were Duncanson-Parker-Sampson-Bock (-8). CP winners were Bates 7' 7", Umeck 10' 1", Marty Anderson 4' 6", and Stange 10' 11". The club's first round for this issue of Life in Solera was on Aug. 13. The Best Ball Twosome of Sampson-Duncanson took first place with a Net 62. Second place goes to Martin and his guest, Bud Thatcher (63). Third Place were Young-Salvador (66). Fourth place Bock-Bradd (70). Fifth place Chapman-Jesse Mendez (71). Kudos to Martin who had an individual low of net 70 to lead the way. CP winners were: Duncanson 3' 6", Umeck with two CPs of 2' 7" and 13' 10", and Young's 11' 6".
