20 | OHCC LIVING | OCTOBER 2024 | Jack and I rode the SDL Transportation Service shuttle for the first time and we had an enjoyable afternoon. Our main driver, Juan, is a delightful man and very happy to be driving our group. He lives near Petco Park and drives in traffic both ways so he must really like us. Juan is very helpful to everyone, be it carrying groceries, helping people on and off the vehicle, or just sharing a good conversation. Originally there were six people signed up for the afternoon session but two canceled so they could attend the Tri-City Hospital lecture. The shuttle can carry up to seven passengers, but the company needs to know the night before so they can send the correct vehicle (one car holds six passengers and one holds seven). First, we dropped Bobby T. off at EOS so he could get in his workout. Other riders went to EOS on the morning shuttle. These residents can't say enough about having this amenity so they can work out since EOS offers more than is available in our workout room. Our fellow passenger was Fran K. She and her husband have lived in OHCC for over 10 years. She had to give up her license some time ago, but her husband, Jack, has just given up his. Fran talked about how hard it is for them to make the adjustment. She knows about Uber but is not completely on board with it yet. She is so appreciative of the shuttle and was on her way to Costco with her "keeps it cold" grocery bag. Jack and I had a delicious lunch at Panini Kabob Grill with enough left over to take home for dinner. I even had time to make a run to the bank before we were picked up for the reverse trip. So all of us want to thank Chris Bessey and staff for finding a shuttle service and the Master Board for continuing its funding. It is more important than you might realize, and who can predict when we will become non-drivers in this very driver-dependent town. ~ Written by Lynn Williams Trying Out the New Transportation Service Bobby T. on his way to EOS Juan and Jack B. with our shuttle Inside the six-passenger vehicle
