| OHCC LIVING | OCTOBER 2024 | 31 Happy October to all our friends in papercrafting. It's fall and a great time of year for enjoying friends and family as the holidays approach. We had our annual luncheon in September and officially elected our slate of officers for 2025. Congratulations to all returning incumbents and new volunteers. Cardmaking and Cricuting (sp?) are in full swing, and the card and TOTES groups are busy as always making and teaching and learning Papercraft. Many of the themes of our classes are devoted this month to Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas, for which many cards are needed. TOTES sponsored two workshops in September where participants made Spooky 3-D Haunted Houses and Jack-O-Lantern treat boxes. Last month, Group 3 did something that may turn out to be a tradition. Since we do not meet on the 5th Friday of the month, we decided to give going out to lunch as a group a try. Lisa Seamons, home cook extraordinaire, invited us all to her house for a "Tea Luncheon" and she put out a spread reminiscent of the poshest of English teatimes. We gathered, feasted, chatted and shared our stashes of cards we'd made, and all had a lovely time; not to mention went home with leftovers and bunches of herbs from Lisa's Garden. We'll do lunch at restaurants in the future, but Lisa's "Tea Party" was a very special event that we hope we can continue annually. Other Papercrafting news: Many of our crafters are generously making and volunteering their cards for special groups, and gifts for staff which are always a hit. Our members really have the biggest of hearts (to match their stashes of crafting supplies). We want to wish a very happy birthday to our members celebrating birthdays this October: Here's to Jaime Albano, Yvonne Barnum, Jackie Windes, Tatis Cervantes, Elaine Santi, and Alison Stewart. Have a fabulous celebration all month-long ladies. Check out this month's online calendar for a listing of both popular and obscure events and holidays being celebrated and remembered in October. October holidays and observances 2024: full calendar (today.com) October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Don't forget your pink ribbons to show your support. October 5th is World Cardmaking Day. Get inspired and send some Halloween cards to friends, family and neighbors. Also celebrated this month: Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Columbus Day, and one of my favorites, Pierogi Day. Enjoy all the holidays that you look forward to this month. Happy Halloween to all here at OHCC. Show your spooky spirit and wear a costume to class this month. Until next month, happy crafting.
