| OHCC LIVING | OCTOBER 2024 | 43 Labor Day has passed, and the Pool Guest Registration policy is over for another year. This policy was implemented for health, safety and insurance reasons. Most residents were happy to comply, and it was no problem to stop at the Clubhouse desk to register their guests and receive a wristband. Some folks were unaware that there were any pool rules! So, registering guests provided an opportunity to learn what the HOA rules are for the pool and surrounding area. Registration is over for 2024, however, please remember that the three main pool rules are in effect all year long: 1. Any guest at OHCC must be accompanied by a resident at all times (HOA handbook, Section 2, A14-Guests). 2. Children must be at least 5 years old to use the pool facilities (HOA handbook, Section 2, B9-Pool and Spa). 3. No one under the age of 14 is permitted in the spa (hot tub). Unfortunately, we still have residents who don't think the rules apply to them. The Swim & Wellness club board members, along with the Recreation Department staff, heard about and witnessed many flagrant violations. Young children in diapers, raucous horseplay that injured residents trying to enjoy the pool, and guests using foul language when asked to follow the rules - these are just a few of the problems encountered. This topic was discussed at the Aug. 14 Master Board meeting. Tony Duong, Community Patrol supervisor with Securitas, assured us that several changes would be made in his staff 's patrolling duties. He also stated that warnings and citations can be issued for rule violations. We certainly hope it doesn't come to that! Member Spotlight: Club member Nan Goodman has lived in OHCC for more than years. She was born in Detroit but grew up in Southern California. She returned to Michigan State for college, married and had two children, then moved to San Francisco where she worked as a buyer and merchandiser for a large retail company. She moved on to become a recruiter, putting top executives in positions for large companies. After a few years, Nan and a friend opened their own business, and operated it for 15 years. She and husband Alan have been married for 30 years and have two children and four grandkids, plus a 14-year-old mini-schnauzer named Dubi. Nan and Alan love to travel and have been to many exciting places. Upcoming trips include China, Cuba, a Northern Lights cruise and Germany/Switzerland. But she makes time to play mahjongg regularly, plus sculpting and other crafting. Nan loves our pool and being outside. She especially enjoys the Aqua Fitness classes. She speaks highly of the instructor and all the friendships she's made in the class. She claims that the class has helped improve her balance plus she sleeps better. Who could ask for more? Nan is a faithful Swim & Wellness Club volunteer, and you'll often see her at club events, at the registration table or in the kitchen. Thanks, Nan! Mark your calendars for the Fall Social Celebration on Thurs., Nov. 21 at 6 pm in Abravanel Hall. We'll have a short business meeting with the election of officers for 2025, followed by a casual supper. ~ Written by Sara Stewart, Club VP Swim & Wellness Club In Loving Memory GEORGE IMBSEN Nan Goodman Pool or lake, it doesn't matter. Just enjoy the water! Any thoughts on who this S & W board member might be?
