With summer over when our Oct. 27 party is held, rather than risk
cold weather, we thought we would head back to Abravanel Hall. But
these past few months have been great in the Lanai with the new
larger portable parquet floor, which has been drawing rave reviews.
Having the floor and band outside the Lanai seems to work, because
it allows people at tables inside to carry on conversations without
being blasted with the music. Speakers have been put in place to
improve the sound system and hopefully before next summer, an ice
machine can be installed in the Lanai, so clubs don't have to lug ice
from the kitchen in the clubhouse.
For the party in October, the popular band Smokin' Guns makes a
return engagement. The theme is Haunted House, with Karla Sando
hosting. Hope to see a lot of creative Halloween costumes, as usual.
The cost is $19 for members and $24 for non-members. Doors open
at 6 pm and the music starts at 6:30 pm.
The party in November - our last one of the year - will be hosted
by your Board of Directors. It will be a pajama party, featuring the
band Cool Rush.
There has been discussion about the parties' starting time. The
Board feels that the 6 pm starting time may be a bit too late. Dancers
are already lining up at 5:30 wanting to get in and by 9 pm or so people
are tired and beginning to leave. Therefore, starting in January, doors
will open at 5:30 pm and the band/DJ will begin at 6 pm and end at
9 pm, instead of 9:30 pm. This earlier time will also give hosts the
opportunity to get home earlier after party clean-up.
Be sure to attend the Doo Wop election meeting, Thurs., Oct. 17.
It will begin at 4 pm in Abravanel Hall. Free pizza, salad, wine, beer
and water will be provided. Nominations will be taken from the
floor. If you are interested in running, please contact Tony Sando,
Nominating Committee chair. Written by Tom Harwood
