Let's review the criteria for Exterior Ornaments/Objects. An ornament is any inanimate object, constructed with any type of material that has the sole purpose of decoration. This includes garage door decorations that simulate hinges. The display of novelty ornaments or decorations on any portions of a lot visible from any street, common area or golf course is limited to a maximum of eight, including f lowerpots. The pots must contain live f lowers or shrubs, and all plant material in the pots must be maintained or replaced when needed. The total height of the pot and plants must not exceed seven feet. The resident must maintain these plants at all times. If the plant material in the pot dies, the resident will remove the pot from view or replace the plant material. Ornaments or pots exceeding number or size requires MAC approval prior to placement. Ornament/objects are acceptable if it fits within an area approximately four feet high by two feet wide. Let's all do our part to keep Sun Lakes Country Club beautiful and our property tastefully decorated. ~ Lyla Wolden, member, Master Architectural Committee | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | OCTOBER 2024 | 15 Lifestyles Magazine is the resource most residents turn use to find out what's going on in our community. At 80 pages, it includes pictures from residents plus articles from the Master Board, Delegate Assembly, FirstService, the Restaurant, the golf pro, and all the advisory committees. Clubs and groups send articles and photos about their activities to Sunlakesnews@yahoo.com by the sixth of each month. The Lifestyles Advisory Committee meets on the seventh of each month, unless otherwise specified, to review and edit the articles submitted for each month's issue of the magazine. We meet with Master Board liaison Beverly Simmons, Assistant General Manager Jason Ewals, and Recreation Manager Linda Vang to keep updated about events coming up in our community. We also publish want ads and for sale items from residents at no cost and hide a monthly joke for residents to find. Responses to our "Get the Joke" contest are put in a hat and a winner is randomly drawn, earning a restaurant gift card as a prize. Photographs taken by residents of areas within Sun Lakes are used on the magazine cover. We also post pictures of residents on their vacations, or of their beloved pets. If you're good at proofreading and are interested in joining us, please fill out a volunteer application form that you can get in the Main Clubhouse Lobby, and we'll put you on our waiting list. On a sad note: It is with immense sadness that the Lifestyles Committee mourns the recent passing of one of its valued members, Diane Delis. Diane was always a joy to be around, insightful, sharp and quick-witted. She leaves a huge void in the committee and will be missed enormously. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her beloved husband, Art. ~ Robin Warner, Chair, robincwarner@yahoo.com Lifestyles Advisory Master Architectural Look for some changes coming soon in our four libraries. The Library Committee is reviewing and discussing having our book (both hardback and paperback) in all libraries random, rather than having it categorized by topic (e.g., westerns, sports in one library, drama, and romance in another). We want to make your book selection as convenient as possible. We want your input on this. If you have any suggestions, please email Peter Fernandez at pxfvet@ yahoo.com at (626) 379-7372 or John Hasha at hashajohn@gmail. com at (951) 267-1901. In response to your suggestions based on our recent survey (results were in the September Lifestyles Magazine ) of what you would like our libraries to include, we are following up on the following: 1. Ordering additional large-print books. 2. We are working with the Beaumont Library to obtain a guest speaker and a "how to" flyer for accessing digital books, e-books, and audiobooks. 3. We will add multiple copies of popular books (new books under five years will be done in November). 4. e New York Times is currently in the Sun Lakes Life newspaper and Record-Gazette. 5. We will order more 300-piece puzzles (we will not order 750 or 1000-piece puzzles). 6. A collection of health-related books will be added to the collection. Thank you, volunteers! We will have a volunteer recognition luncheon and committee members on Tues., Oct. 1, in the South Clubhouse. We need additional volunteers; please get in touch with Diana Wee at (505) 350-4469 or email at jweedwee@msn.com. Volunteers can select what days and times work for them. Work for you — one more way to make our libraries and Sun Lakes the best community. ~ John L. Hasha, hashajohn@gmail.com Library Advisory
